Due in the next few days and been struggling with a name, narrowed it down to Kelly, Jenny, Daniella and Stacey although thought about Candy at one point also.

However top of my list was the name February or Feb for short!!! Everyone hates it, so I dropped it early on, but recently as time draws near it has come back to play. yet I do not want to give my child a name everyone hates.

Anyone like it or is it really bad?

It wouldn't be my choice of name, but then neither would the others on your list. If I met a girl called February I wouldn't think it was particularly weird. I think if you love it then go for it. Just maybe give her a plain middle name in case she doesn't agree later in life! From your other names I like Jenny best. Not keen on the others and really dislike Candy. But pick the one that you feel best about, YOU need to love the name, and other people will take it in their stride.

YouGrateMyCheese · 23/02/2014 13:56

Well, I love it. You have girls named May/Mae, June, April, Augusta, Autumn, Winter, Summer. Boys - and girls - named August. There's January Jones, Tuesday Weld and the late great Spring Byington. And you could call her Feb, as you said, Febe or even Faye. As long as you gave her a more mainstream middle name to fall back on - just in case - I think you'd be fine.

CheerfulYank · 23/02/2014 14:16

I think it's cool :)

jazzyjenbo · 23/02/2014 14:44

Well I don't mind this name, like names abit out of the ordinary and there are far worse than this. Suppose ur hurdle maybe ur dh seen as you said everyone hates it.. Is he included?
Also I wouldnt use February if you child isnt going to be born in February.
How about Cadance instead of candy.
Well my obvious fav on your 80's list is Jenny seen as i'm a Jennifer.

LizLemonaid · 23/02/2014 14:48

Id find these 80s names more refreshing than the 2000-2014 names!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/02/2014 14:50

Sorry but I think February is terrible - really, really terrible.

I like Jenny as a nn for Jennifer and am rather fond of Candy too, though I suspect everybody else will absolutely hate it. The biggest problem with it isn't sweets, it's drugs.

Cassie?
Sindy?

ratqueen · 23/02/2014 14:59

I quite like it in a weird way but I would not call a child it for fear that they would change their name in future! Jenny is my favourite from your list. I also like Jenn and Jennifer. Kelly is sweet but not as beautiful a name imo. Candy I dislike I am afraid!

Interesting first post

BananaHammocks · 23/02/2014 16:37

I've heard of a Febrianne before!

EmpressOfTheWellOfLostPlots · 23/02/2014 16:40

I know a Candy and she's lovely - I just think of Candy as her name.
I can see the attraction of February.

Jeggie · 23/02/2014 16:41

I knew a November. Thought it was quite nice... Not sure about February though.

bouquetofpencils · 23/02/2014 17:47

I don 't think February is terrible. May and June are frequently used, January is pretty on January Jones. Summer, Winter and Autumn were all unusual names once. If I heard of a girl called February I would understand the parents line of thinking.
However... February is a bugger to spell, especially for a child, and nn Feb isn't very feminine. People would think Deb?
But if you love it, go for it.

I'm surprised about posters not liking the name Jenny. It seems like such a normal, inoffensive name to me.

TamerB · 23/02/2014 20:23

Jenny is best.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 24/02/2014 14:02

Awful. As are Candy and Stacey.

Jenny is ok.

westkar · 24/02/2014 21:45

Thanks everyone, I used to have a friend called candy when I was little, thought it was the best name ever.

Like people said I am not sure why people object to February so much. I actually though of April, I quite like it. I know of a Wednesday and I today I heard of Sunday, I was in Tesco when a young man turned round to a girl of about 4 and called her Sunday.

I know i am stuck in the 70/80s but at least I am stuck doing what everyone else is doing. Kirsty is another 80s name I like. I really like Emma too and Hannah but there seem to lots of these around.
