Condom.

caramelwaffle · 19/02/2014 04:14

It's a nickname.

squoosh · 19/02/2014 10:34

Jonathon is a 1980's estate agent who is married to Dawn.

Bowlersarm · 19/02/2014 15:58

Jonathon might be Squoosh

However, Jonathan is a neat and tidy professional who always wears a suit bizarrely. His wife will be called Pippa or possibly Helen or Emma.

The cooler version, Johnny, is rather like Jonny Wilkinson. Confident and handsome.

squoosh · 19/02/2014 16:03

Definitely not selling it. Jonny Wikinson is a talented sportsman and pretty enough to look at but OH MY, he's so boring.

John is classic, Jonathan is classic 1980s.

Bowlersarm · 19/02/2014 16:05

Jonathan isn't a new name, though. It's biblical.

squoosh · 19/02/2014 16:07

Mark is biblical and that shouts 1980's to me too.

Bowlersarm · 19/02/2014 16:12

I would say both Mark and John are more dated than Jonathan. I know quite a few boys called jonathan, but no Marks or Johns, so it isnt a dated name to me.

squoosh · 19/02/2014 16:18

Fair enough, it's all about who you know. I know Johns of all ages, elderly men and brand new babies. The only Jonathans I've ever met are middle aged and English.

MrsBennetsEldest · 19/02/2014 16:26

Condom

If you have another boy in the future you could have Johnny and Willie.

BlueDesmarais · 19/02/2014 18:46

It's a bit boring. Saying you like Johnny is like saying you like bread.

Also, give him a full name. He won't be a baby forever. I was given a nickname instead of a real name and I utterly hate it.

CurlyKiwiControl · 19/02/2014 19:50

Oh yeah, and if I had a another girl as well I could call her fanny and have a Johnny, a Willie and a Fanny Hmm

I would be remembered for my sparkling wit Grin

Wouldn't it be great if Lady Garden from the House of Lords had children with those names?

CurlyKiwiControl · 19/02/2014 20:23

Totally fabulous!

Love. It is our choice for our DC4, ds2 due, well, now actually!!! We are going with Jonathan but Jonny for short.... It's string yet sensitive, not at all retro twee and undateable as in cant be pigeonholed to any particular time... And others not forget that other fine johnny, johnny castle!!

TheGreatCatsby · 20/02/2014 12:05

My post makes limited sense.... This is normal for me! Wink

MauriceMinor · 20/02/2014 14:12

Some infantile posters on this thread I see. Showing their age too...back to the wireless ladies.

Nataleejah · 20/02/2014 16:42

I prefer John or Jon

MrsBungle · 20/02/2014 16:47

I know quite a few Johnny's. It's alright. I don't immediately think condom.

JodieGarberJacob · 20/02/2014 16:52

Not forgetting little Dickie, Curly.

thegreatgatsby101 · 20/02/2014 16:56

Jonathan Yes. John Yes.

Johnny No.

MoominMammasHandbag · 20/02/2014 17:13

Johnny is a great name. I think the condom thing is passing out of use nowadays anyway.

mathanxiety · 20/02/2014 17:51

I also know middle aged English Jonathans and also a few American ones who are a little younger. It's very 70s/80s.

Johnny, otoh, is great, and a classic -- but a pet name, never one for the BC. I would use John as the BC name.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 20/02/2014 17:56

We have a Johnathan (unconventional spelling I know!) he gets called Johnny by one side of the family and John John by the other. Grin

I think it's an awesome name.

muttonjeffmum · 20/02/2014 18:03

I think it's great. Johnny Cash was never actually called Johnny by his parents - he was known as JR. He only used his full name when he got a recording contract. It's cool and like others have said, undateable. My teenagers don't call condoms johnnies by the way. I think that is definitely a generational thing and dying out now.
