Or would she be ridiculed?

If you spell it like that she might be! If you're going for the HP vibe that is!

SS3J · 17/02/2014 21:26

I think.it's a pretty name. Why do.you think she would be ridiculed? Because of Harry Potter? I wouldn't worry if that is the case, it is a more popular name now because if that and after all, Harry is no 1!

Benzalkonium · 17/02/2014 21:26

Try Hermina?

SS3J · 17/02/2014 21:27

Yes, did you mean Hermione?!

trampsypantsy · 17/02/2014 21:28

Yes because of the harry potter connection, and S's I used that spelling in order to try and move away from the harry potter connotations!

NoArmaniNoPunani · 17/02/2014 21:31

Wouldn't it be pronounced Her-moyne if you spell it incorrectly?

AmysTiara · 17/02/2014 21:33

It looks like you can't spell, Hermione is a pretty name, Hermoine looks wrong

MooncupGoddess · 17/02/2014 21:33

Would you pronounce it Her-moyne or Her-moy-nee? In any case the poor child would have to spend her whole life saying 'no, not Hermione, Hermoine' and getting Hmm looks.

trampsypantsy · 17/02/2014 21:34

No her-my-nee same as in hp,yes probably would spell it Hermione in that case

OP posts:
Lottiedoubtie · 17/02/2014 21:35

Spell it correctly and it's a fine name.

trampsypantsy · 17/02/2014 21:36

Do you prefer hermione or Ava?

OP posts:
SS3J · 17/02/2014 21:37

I would say only use it if you are going to spell it Hermione and pronounce it Her-MY-oh-nee. Anything else is going to invite a lot of confusion and corrections. As I said before, personally I don't think the Harry Potter connection will lead to ridicule. If anything that has just made Hermione a mire mainstream name.

SS3J · 17/02/2014 21:38

Hermione is nicer than Ava imo.

CalamityKate · 17/02/2014 21:39

That's like asking if you can get away with calling your chlld Jack, but spelling it Jock.

Alisvolatpropiis · 17/02/2014 23:07

It's pronounced Her-my-oh-knee though OP, not Her-my-knee.

Ava.

Purely because either the spelling or pronunciation you go for are going to make Hermione a cross to bear for your daughter.

IsItMeOr · 17/02/2014 23:17

Ava. Because it has a V in it, and that is a cool letter to have in your name.

ginzillas · 18/02/2014 16:07

I love Hermione and think most people know how to pronounce it now due to HP. Like the nn Minnie for it too.

ToffeeJungle · 18/02/2014 18:21

Hermione does just make me think of HP.
Ava is lovely though.

KiwiBanana · 18/02/2014 19:25

Definitely Hermione over Ava. I must have met over 20 little Ava's and it's just so boring now. Go for something different

kentishgirl · 21/02/2014 13:23

Hermione is nice.

Hermoine makes me think parents are illiterate or drunk when they went to register the birth. If you change the spelling, you change the pronounciation as well to Her - moyne, which is just weird. Or you keep the pronounciation correct, and have a completely incorrectly spelled name.

Like having a Brian, spelled Brain.

Why on earth would you want to do that? Embarrassing for the child. Makes parents look like idiots.

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 21/02/2014 13:26

The girl in HP is Her-my-on-ee. Not Her-my-nee.

Read the books.

Hermoine is stupid. Hermione is quite nice, though I wouldn't use for a few years yet, until the HP thing has died down.

lljkk · 21/02/2014 13:37

Go with the regular spelling; "Herr-Mwan-ee" is going to be a problem.
I know a Hermione age 9, seems to get along fine.

blondefriend · 21/02/2014 18:32

My dd's middle name is Hermione. I would have loved it for her first name but my OH vetoed it. Go for it.

squoosh · 21/02/2014 19:27

I prefer Ava to Hermione spelt correctly or incorrectly. I always think it looks so ungainly.

Davidhasselhoffstoecheese · 21/02/2014 20:08

I love the name
