Spelling of Aaliyah

I love the name Aaliyah but if you heard the name how would you assume it's spelt? What other variations of the name are there xx

To me Aaliyah is the correct spelling.

I think the spelling 'Aa' was popularised by the young USA singer who very sadly died.

But like several other names originating in languages that use different alphabets from the western ABC, there are spelling variations. Anyone can choose the one they like!

My daughters name is alayah never heard any one else with the name

Alia? I think the actress on Arrested Development spells it this way. I think it may be Egyptian or Arabic in origin.

This is currently top of our list for DD2 dues in 8wk, we would spell it Alia.

I know an Alia and an Aaliyah. I think there are many different spellings, not sure if there is one original/correct one?

As you have spelled it. Can't recall what it means. But have a cousin by marriage called it.

My 11 year old has a name which she gets fed up spelling out to people so was trying to find something pretty but the most common spelling.

My shortlist is Leila, Alyssa, Sienna or Aaliyah so far. Am due next week!!! :)

according to the Baby Names book on my desk, which is by no means definitive, the main entry is under Aliya, with variants listed as Aaliyah, Aleah, Alia, Aliah, Aliyah.

I think of Aaliyah as the standard spelling, mainly due to the American singer who was killed in a plane crash....I remember this detail as it was just prior to 9/11 plus she was my age so it was poignant.

Sorry bit of a digression to explain my reasoning!

I think of Aaliyah as the 'proper' spelling
a) because I know one
and b) the Hebrew word 'aliyah'
