We already have a DD called Holly and like the name Harry for our DS due shortly. Can't decide whether Holly and Harry sound sweet together or just really stupid??

I like it :)

Ladyfarquhar · 05/02/2014 08:20

They were my two favourite names but unfortunately I married a man who's father dropped his "h"s. I couldn't have a life time of 'olly and 'arry.

I think they're lovely. Although my DCs do have the same first initial and they do get called every variation of a merge of the two.

Thewhingingdefective · 05/02/2014 08:33

Lovely. Goes well together and they are both good names, without being poncey or pretentious.

BlueStarsAtNight · 05/02/2014 09:55

Personally I think it's a bit too samey, though they are both lovely names

scoobysu · 05/02/2014 11:36

Love these names together. Really cute!

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 05/02/2014 11:42

Why not, they roll nicely together.

ToffeeJungle · 05/02/2014 12:58

I personally wouldn't - both nice enough names but not for siblings.

MrsBungle · 05/02/2014 13:01

Too samey for my taste but it's not too bad.

Onesleeptillwembley · 05/02/2014 13:03

Love both names but wouldn't put them together, not cute. Too similar.

Frikadellen · 05/02/2014 13:22

I think they are to similar

tammytoby · 05/02/2014 14:27

They are too similar and too cutesy imo.

Naicecuppatea · 05/02/2014 14:31

Too similar for me although I like the names individually. I personally would totally get them mixed up.

MarvellousMechanicalMouseOrgan · 05/02/2014 14:34

I really like both of them individually but IMO together they sound a bit twee and children's TV programme.

WowserBowser · 05/02/2014 14:34

Too similar for me too.

newyearhere · 05/02/2014 14:51

Both nice names, but too matchy together.

Charlie, Archie, Alfie, Harvey?

squoosh · 05/02/2014 14:56

I know a brother and sister called Holly and Harry. It's a bit too matchy matchy for me.

CambridgeBlue · 05/02/2014 15:02

I do too, wonder if it's the same ones!

I like both names OP, think they're classic and timeless. I get the kids TV thing but I've honestly never thought about it with the people I know.

SpookedMackerel · 05/02/2014 15:09

They are nice names, but personally I wouldn't use names that are so similar, as I would be forever muddling them up.

My neice's name starts with the same letter as Dd's and when they are together, even sil and I call them by each other's names. Mil and Fil muddle the names ALL the time.

My mum was even worse - we had a cat called Tess, and my brother is Tom - she was always muddling up their names Grin.

CheeseStrawWars · 05/02/2014 15:10

Have you tried pretending you are calling your DC aloud, say across a crowded park? "Harry and Holly!" is a bit of a tongue-twister, the names run into each other. "Holly and Harry!" isn't much better.

YouGrateMyCheese · 05/02/2014 15:27

Well, I love them. I really do. I think they match beautifully without being too cutesy. They're a real knock-out, actually - even just seeing the title of the thread caught my attention right away. It's not like you'd be having a Harry and Harriet! Hmm

YouGrateMyCheese · 05/02/2014 15:29

Plus they won't be living under the same roof forever. They might appreciate the bond of having similar-sounding names as they get older.

Ihatepeas · 05/02/2014 19:52

I know 3 different sets of Holly and Harry siblings!
I think they go well together.

windydays · 05/02/2014 20:06

Thanks everyone. I think I'm swayed towards having it, although they are similar, as many have said they are both lovely names and I think sound sweet together Smile

My DC have quite matchy names, not in how they are spelt but in how they sound but I really like their names so used them!
