Think we've got a short (well, quite long) list - but just can't decide. I'd really welcome views on these. Surname is two syllables, ending in 'er'. We don't want anything really popular.

Elizabeth - good with surname, good nicknames. But too boring/popular?
Rosalind - as above (but not too popular)
Juliet - like this, but don't like Jules/Julie/Ju.
Romilly - love the sound of this, and possibly Milly as nn. But too weird?
Iona
Xanthe - too weird?
Josephine - OH not keen, I like length and Josie as nn.
Stella
Georgia - too popular?
Charlotte - also too popular?

I love your list!

If you're both on board with Romilly, use it. It's my favourite from your list and unique but not "out there."

I also love Rosalind.

NancyinCali · 29/01/2014 05:25

Or Romy if you like Romilly?
I love Josephine from your list too. I know a very sweet little girl named it.
What do you think of Madeline?

Beachballfamily · 29/01/2014 05:29

Have a Madeline already!

Excellent name :) I love Elizabeth from your list too.

hatebeak · 29/01/2014 10:13

Iona is such a beautiful name. Also love Stella, Josephine and Rosalind. I'd go for Iona Rosalind or Stella Josephine. Only dislike Xanthe and Romilly - reminds me of Rommel.

InfiniteJest · 29/01/2014 10:32

I like Juliet and Romilly with Madeline. Juliet can also be shortened to Lettie, or not shortened at all! Milly is a cute nickname for Romilly. I think pick a name you both love and don't worry about it being too 'weird', you'll never please everybody (and I don't think any of the names on your list are weird anyway!)

HyvaPaiva · 29/01/2014 10:40

Elizabeth - LOVE
Rosalind - Really don't like this
Juliet - Feel the same as you, don't like Jules/Julie/Ju nicknames.
Romilly - I hear Rommel, sorry!
Iona - Like
Xanthe - LOVE
Josephine - LOVE
Stella - Not bad
Georgia - Not bad
Charlotte - As Juliet, I like the full name but dislike Lottie/Charlie etc.

BlueStarsAtNight · 29/01/2014 10:41

I like Juliet and Josephine. Stella or Georgia are my favourites but not sure it goes with an 'er' surname.
I think Elizabeth and Charlotte are a bit dull / overdone I'm afraid, and Rosalind sounds too similar to Madeline.
Romilly is ok, poss a bit out-there for me.
Iona and Xanthe I'm undecided on!

CPtart · 29/01/2014 10:55

Elizabeth -lovely
Rosalind- old fashioned, and not in a good way
Juliet-nice name but would get shortened as you say
Romilly-dislike
Iona-bit washy washy
Xanthe-trying too hard
Josephine-love
Stella- dislike, harsh sounding
Georgia- a know a few, real little madams!
Charlotte- bit uninspiring

How about Esther, Alicia, Louisa, Natalie, Erin, Erica, Georgina, Rosa,

ScarletWomanoftheVillage · 29/01/2014 10:57

Molly! Best name ever and not easy to shorten :)

Oriunda · 29/01/2014 11:00

I love Rosalind (like Shakespeare)
also like Romilly and Iona

emsyj · 29/01/2014 11:07

Elizabeth - Nice, don't know any little girls with this name
Rosalind - Went to school with a girl called Rosalind - she was beautiful and lovely, so good connotations for me
Juliet - went to uni with a Juliet who was just unbearable - smug, patronising, arrogant and very strange looking (although she thought she was gorgeous). I couldn't use this name for that reason.
Romilly - quite nice, never known anyone with this name
Iona - ok, not horrible, not lovely
Xanthe - lovely, I would use this (my favourite jointly with Elizabeth from your list)
Josephine - a cat's name to me (sorry) - but not horrible. A perfectly ok name.
Stella - =McCartney or lager to me - although I like the meaning. I would like to like this name but the associations stop me.
Georgia - popular and not keen on it generally (although I like George for a boy...)
Charlotte - nice, perfectly ok name

Rhubarbgarden · 29/01/2014 12:03

I'd go for Rosalind or Josephine from that list.

DitsyDonkey · 29/01/2014 12:31

Live Xanthe and Romilly

DitsyDonkey · 29/01/2014 12:31

Love not live!

ClemencePoesy · 29/01/2014 13:31

Xanthe is the loveliest, unusual and more unique than the others, without being weird.

Tiredemma · 29/01/2014 13:35

LOVE Romilly

thepigsmother · 29/01/2014 16:33

You have a lovely list!

Juliet is my favourite - I have a friend named this and she is always Juliet, never shortened at all.

Elizabeth - is a great name, I just think of Elizabeth Bennet. Classic and timeless.
Rosalind - I like the Shakespearian-ness of this (bit literary here if you can tell Smile
Romilly - this is very pretty and not weird at all
Iona - rare, strong and very cool Smile
Georgia - quite like this but prefer Georgina I think, and Georgie is a great nickname
Stella - quite like this too

The only ones I'm not too keen on are Xanthe, Josephine and Charlotte

Congratulations on your little girl!

williaminajetfighter · 29/01/2014 23:45

Love Romilly. Just. Lovely.

FloatingHandle · 30/01/2014 00:19

Love Rosalind, Juliet, Romilly and Stella. If I had to pick just one it would probably be Rosalind

threeleftfeet · 30/01/2014 00:21

I love Romilly and Xanthe

Bankholidaybaby · 30/01/2014 00:36

Romilly is a lovely name and Milly is a pretty diminutive. All your names are beautiful, but that's my favourite.
