Hello, I have no trouble thinking of girl's names but somehow boys names have me a bit stumped. Here's my list so far. Any thoughts or suggestions of more names I might like would be much appreciated :-)

Finn - we both really like but notice it is 3rd most popular so prob won't go with it.
Manu - I love this name but not sure if its a bit too out there?
Jem
Seb
Osian (pron. Osh-un)
Theo - have a good friend with this name so prob not.
Otto
Reuben
Tomos

Thanks for your time! :-)

Not keen on the others.

Finn - Someone from Finland
Manu - A football club
Jem - I think of Jemma
Seb - As in Sebastian? In which case I like it. I like names in full then they can shorten themselves if they want to (that's what I did with my 2)
Osian - Hmmm a vast expanse of water spelt wrong?
Theo - I like it, Theodore would be my long version
Otto - German, not that it matters but it's my first thought.
Reuben - No opinion.
Tomos - Should that be Thomas, I like Thomas? If you are not English I appreciate that Tomos maybe a more traditional way to spell that name to you.

As you probably worked out I like classic names. I think they age better. My dad is lumbered with a hideous name very typical of the 1950's. My MIL has a similar one from the 1940's.

Manu a football club - I didn't think of that! It's actually pronounced Manoo and short for Emanuel. I'm with you stepmooster in that I like longer names that can be shortened. Tomos is the Welsh way of spelling Thomas btw (Osian is also a Welsh name and I kinda like that it sounds a bit like Ocean as I live by the sea!)

Finn - Like
Manu - Came across one a while back thought it was unusual but quite like it.
Jem - Sounds too feminine to me
Seb - Like this, also Sebastian.
Osian (pron. Osh-un) - Not a huge fan
Theo - have a good friend with this name so prob not. - Like
Otto - I like this but DH immediately said no when I suggested it.
Reuben - Like and was on our list at one point.
Tomos - Prefer Thomas

Other suggestions ...

Otis
Elijah
Casper
Jago
Leon
Seth

Theo - my favourite from your list. Would use Theodore as full name
Manu - nice nickname for Emanuel. I did think "football" as well
I like Jem as nickname for Jerome or Jeremiah.
Again, with Seb I'd only use it as nickname for Sebastian.
Tomos quite nice, but I think people would often spell it wrongly
Osian is OK, but you may have to remind people how it's pronounced
Reuben is OK
Finn and Otto are too faddy

DalmationDots · 28/01/2014 18:43

Finn - Really like
Manu - Not for me
Jem - Not for me, too feminine personally
Seb - Like this, esp if full name sebastian
Osian (pron. Osh-un) - Not for me
Theo - have a good friend with this name so prob not. - like this
Otto - Not for me, fine when he is young but not when grown up
Reuben - like this
Tomos - like this, spelling issue would happen though

BlanketSky · 29/01/2014 23:03

The only Manu I've known is French- short for Emmanuel yes. Not sure it works that well here tbh

I like Tomos, Reuben and Seb from your list, despite some negative associations with all (teacher- even my son's name has some!)

What about Seth? Very similar to Seb but a name in its own right with no shortening required. And unusual but not too out there either :)

poppydaisy · 30/01/2014 09:56

Agree that Finn is very overused.
Seb reminds me of sebacious/oily and it is so soft/unmasculine.
Manu to my ears is a nickname for Manuela.
Theo very widely used already.
Otto is Europe's largest mail order company.

I love Jem (short for Jeremy), Reuben and Osian - or how about Quentin or Marcus?

Confitdecanard · 30/01/2014 15:04

I like Manu. Reminds me of Manu Chao. I also like Otto. Finn is cute but very popular. Jem is cute too although I would probably go for a longer version on BC. Nothing wrong with just Jem though.

MyNameIsSuz · 30/01/2014 19:58

Aw, I really like Osian!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/01/2014 20:50

Love Tomos.

Theonlyoneiknow · 31/01/2014 20:29

I like Osian too but prefer it spelt Ossian

yakisoba · 01/02/2014 22:06

I love Tomos (but then again I'm biased 'cause we have one). Also love Osian, but for some reason DH associates it with someone horrid from school. Another welsh name we also love that you might like to consider is Idris. Lovely name!
