So this is our shortlist for a DD2. We have decided on Thomas for a DS.

Would like opinions please.

Love Francesca

NigellasDealer · 22/01/2014 22:42

love Evelyn but think Eveline is a nicer spelling

AuntieStella · 22/01/2014 22:45

Francesca

Theas18 · 22/01/2014 22:45

Nigellasdealer wouldn't you pronounce Evelyn and eveline differently?

Evelyn is well. ....eve-lyn and eveline is evel-eye-n iykwim!

Evelyn wins for me :)

PastaandCheese · 22/01/2014 22:50

I think there are a couple of pronunciation variations with Evelyn. We were thinking Eve Lyn.

It's hard because I accept names inevitably get shortened and I like Bea the most of all shorten versions available but probably prefer Beatrice the least as a full name iyswim?

hmm funny you say that i was just muttering the two names to myself....
my granny was Eveline so not biased much!

newyearhere · 23/01/2014 09:08

I like Beatrice and Evelyn. Prefer Frances to Francesca.

BuntyPenfold · 23/01/2014 09:30

I like Beatrice, and Francesca.
Every other girl seems to be called Evelyn at the moment, if that would bother you.

Lottiedoubtie · 23/01/2014 09:31

If you like Bea could you have Bethan, Bea for short?

UriGeller · 23/01/2014 09:41

Francesca is lovely but i dont like Fran.

Beatrice is just gorgeous. Bee, Bea, Bebe, all lovely diminutions

Don't like Evelyn. Its just too 'fragile aged lady with purple hair smelling of lavender'.

Algorithm · 23/01/2014 10:31

I love Evelyn. When I was at school there was the most amazing girl a few years below me with the name Evelyn and she was really pretty and a really hard worker and I just associate good things with the name.

NoSquirrels · 23/01/2014 10:39

Beatrix, as the alternative spelling? I would prefer that myself.

I love Evelyn, but the pronunciation issues put us off it.

I am not keen on Francesca, but love Frances.

So that was very unhelpful, wasn't it!

FriedSprout · 23/01/2014 10:43

My middle name is Evelyn and I was always told that the Eve Lyn pronunciation was the boys name, and that the girls pronunciation was Ever Lyn. For what it's worth I like Francesca most, with nn Cesca.

TheRaniOfYawn · 23/01/2014 13:29

Beatrice is lovely.

PastaandCheese · 23/01/2014 16:49

I like Frances too but DH doesn't!

I like the Bethan suggestion but my niece is Bethany.

Been changing my mind all day! It may well be a case of seeing what the baby looks like on the day which is DH's approach. We've only agreed on Thomas because he is convinced the baby is a girl!

I love all those names (Francesca is my name - in some ways I also prefer Frances though as Francesca has caught on a lot since I was little and now Frances is more unusual...)

I think my favourite is Evelyn but I like them all.

PastaandCheese · 23/01/2014 17:26

Do people shorten your name mim78?

Francesca is lovely, Chessie as nn is v sweet.

ScarletButterfly · 24/01/2014 14:18

Francesca. But I am biased as it's my name. It does often get shortened though, so if you go for that one keep that in mind. I'm forever getting Frances, Frankie, Chesca, and Fran.
