Can you help with a name we can agree on?

My DH and I are struggling to agree on a name for our daughter, due in March.

My criteria; I do not want a name that is hugely popular (top 50), I'd prefer a name that can be shortened to one syllable (or two). At the moment all of the names I love seem to start with a vowel. My DH's criteria; he would prefer a name that has a formal version plus nickname (though some of his preferred names don't meet this rule). The name must not sound 'made up' (although this criteria is hard to apply as it seems a bit random) or French.

He likes;
Sophia, Matilda, Isabella (all too popular for me)

I like;
Edie (Edith - which he hates, or Edelyn - which he says sounds made up)
Etta

The only names we can vaguely agree on aren't names we love, and it seems a bit odd to choose something we don't love for something so important. Eg Millie, Molly, Evelyn (Evie). We like Ava/Ada but they breach the popularity criteria, and we like Mabel but my DH will shorten this to Bella (which I hate).

To give an idea we have also considered names such as Isla, Florence, Erin, Esme, Beatrice, Lily

Any ideas of other names we may agree on?

Something shortened to Annie - Anastasia or Anna?

Josephine (Jojo, Josie)

Linnet shortened to Etta.

I love both Melissa and Vanessa which are classic and underused - though maybe a touch French for your DH.

How about Adelaide or Adele? Has a similar sound and feel to your favourites but more feminine like your DH's?
