Help me find an uncommon but not weird name!

DH has vetoed nearly all of my suggestions, eg:

Cara
Fern
Flora
Clara
Serena
Annabel
Clover

We like, but can't have as friends do, Alice and Amelie. At the moment the compromise name is Emily, which we both like but I would rather have something a bit less popular.

Please help me because DH can't think of any but just keeps vetoing all mine!!

Have you looked at the thread high up in baby names: 'useable names outside the top 1000'?
Some good ideas there.

I like Cara.

How about Ciara?
Keeley?

I like Audrey too, and have a friend whose daughter is Audrey Jane (sometimes gets Audrey Jane, other times just Jane)

Also like Ada.

Hate Elva though - knew an older woman who was called Elva and she was horrid - put me off for life

I ame on to say Romilly - your criteria were the same as ours and that's what we chose.

We also considered Seren, Aurelia, Genevieve and Harper. Well, I considered Harper. DH did not (and this was pre-Beckham). He also liked Bronwyn and I liked Heidi.

EnidB · 17/01/2014 21:57

Lauren, Minnie, Josie. I take it you wanted girl names!

DorothyGherkins · 17/01/2014 21:58

I think Ruth is simple but strong and understated.

superlambanana · 17/01/2014 22:32

There are a lot that I like here, thanks. Yes we've decided on a boy's name Smile

DH looked through the entire list on the useable names outside the top 1000 and declared he didn't like any of them!! Grrr. He seems to think that anything outside of the 'normal' list of names that were popular while we were growing up - Laura, Sarah, Katy, Hannah, Rebecca etc - is either 'weird and made up' or 'really old'. Hmm

Still wonder if I can get him to come round to Flora...

If you both like Emily, we have an Emmeline? :)
