I really like the name Joan. I think it's pretty and it's very underused ime.

Anyone else like this lovely name or am I on my own with Joan ;) ?

Not so keen. But it's not horrific! Good steady name.

Frontdoorstep · 17/01/2014 07:59

I'm not sure what Mad Men is. Joan is underused, it's nice.

WhiteHairReally · 17/01/2014 08:27

Love Mad Men but prefer Jean to Joan.

princessdave · 17/01/2014 11:01

I love it. My nanny was Joan. I'd love to use it as a middle name for another girl but I might go with Joy as I'm not sure I'd get Joan past my DH!

squoosh · 17/01/2014 12:25

Mad Men has given it a teensy bit of glamour but I'm afraid the name always reminds me of that line from Shakespeare's Love's Labour's Lost..

'Tu-whit, tu-who: a merry note,
While greasy Joan doth keel the pot.'

I think 'greasy Joan' may mean prostitute but I might be wrong there!

OpalQuartz · 17/01/2014 12:31

Joan is in the red dress (Mad Men)

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 17/01/2014 15:07

No, it's not pretty, if I'm honest. I'm not a fan of granny chic, sorry.

Joni is much much nicer though.

Dixy30 · 17/01/2014 17:45

Fab name Grin

florascotia · 17/01/2014 20:29

Just in case: there is also Joanne and Joanna in most of the UK, and Johan in Scotland.

DuchessofKirkcaldy · 17/01/2014 22:33

My Grandmother's name. On my shortlist or a definate middle name.

MoominsYonisAreScary · 17/01/2014 22:42

No, its my middle name and my mums and my nanas and my great grans although she went by it.

None of us like it, but it became a tradition

Frikadellen · 17/01/2014 22:45

I dont like it.. Its my sisters name and I have always felt it was harsh and unpleasant to say in English

Atlanta8 · 17/01/2014 22:46

My late nans name.
Considered using jones as a middle name for a boy.

DramaAlpaca · 17/01/2014 22:49

No! Seriously ugly name. Jean is almost as bad.

thegreylady · 18/01/2014 15:14

Lovely name reminds me of Joan Baez and Joan from the Abbey girls books. I'd have loved a Joan but went for Joanna in the end.

MissCalamity · 18/01/2014 17:41

My DM is also Joan & she hates it!

ohmymimi · 18/01/2014 17:46

Joan is my favourite cousin, she's not a caaaah or frumpy or ugly - at pushing 80 she's fun and sparky.

ginzillas · 19/01/2014 08:45

My granny's name and I would consider it as a middle name for future Dd if only my gran didn't hate it so much! Love Jane too.
