Ask DH what he likes so much about Elliott. I love Magnus but I don't think you should browbeat your DH anymore than he should you. Try and find sounds and styles of names he likes and see if you can find something you both love. Magnus is very Scandinavian historically so if your DH feels no connection there it could be a turn off.

I like Magnus, but you need to find a compromise together.

Clargo55 · 12/01/2014 10:59

Or Tobias with nn Toby?

nevergoogle · 12/01/2014 12:39

Phew, had another chat with DH who has now come round to the idea. The bit he didn't like about Magnus was that he knew somebody with that as a surname, not that he didn't like it as such.

More discussion and we now have the following frontrunners.

Magnus
Hector
Linus
Archie

Also we tried Elliott out with his family's accent with a glottal T and it sounds baaad. Smile

Lots of the suggestions here are spot on but can't be used for various reasons ie. siblings, cousins, pets, other kids we know etc.

OP posts:
Clargo55 · 12/01/2014 21:38

Which ones are you liking but cannot be used? May help us think of something similar Smile

nevergoogle · 12/01/2014 21:43

Can't use:
Innes
Callan
Angus
Toby
Hamish

Others i like but vetoed by DH are:
Cassius
Ramsay
Darius

Solomon
Isaiah
Abraham nn Abe
Lawrence nn Wren or Law

Or more traditional

Benjamin
Daniel
Arthur
Ellis

BorisJohnsonsHair · 12/01/2014 22:00

Please don't call your baby Stalemate, it's a rubbish name.

BorisJohnsonsHair · 12/01/2014 22:01

Seriously though,

Robin
John
Leon
Lawrence

Clargo55 · 12/01/2014 22:02

I really like Linus, Hector and Magnus from your names. DH warming to any of them?

nevergoogle · 12/01/2014 22:10

Stalemate! Brilliant and so fitting.

Thankfully Magnus, Linus and Hector are all names we agreed on this morning. And the children too. (C a l u m and S o l). So feel like we're getting somewhere now.
