Which boys names shorten to Mac?

I love the nn Mac and wonder what it could be short for other than MacKenzie for example?

Macdara ... both Irish names though, which you might not like.
My son is in school with a Macintyre, shortened to Mac.

Macsen- Welsh, tends to be shortened to Macs though.

My uncle was always called Mac, his surname was Mc*** so it came from there.

Its not a shortened version obviously but I know someone whose name is Max but is known as Mac.

Hmmm, I know a family with the surname MacWilson and ours isn't dissimilar to the second part, would people think it was a surname if he was just called Mac do you think?

If Mac + your surname forms a distinct surname then it will probably cause confusion. I.e. if your surname is anything like Alastair, Donald, Gregor, etc, it won't work.

Having said that, I have never heard of the surname MacWilson, and I might assume that was a first and last name, Mac Wilson.

Good point, I don't think it would sound too surname-y then as not usually a Mac/Mc name.

If you opt for full name, spell it Mack.

All the people I know called 'Mac' have it as a nickname deriving from their Mc/Mac surname (Scottish, so know many!).
