Harper - girl or boy?

Would you say Harper is more girls or boys name?

If we DO have a girl and call it Harper, will there always be the association with the Beckhams?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Definitely a girl.
We know a Harper and although yes when she was first born there were the obvious Beckham remarks but she's 1 now and all that is forgotten. She's a gorgeous little cutie!

SantanaLopez · 25/12/2013 19:19

Girl.

Unfortunately Beckham-ised now, yes.

Northumberlandlass · 25/12/2013 19:19

Harper Lee - To Kill a Mockingbird

If you asked DS he would say Wizards of Waverly Place

ThurlHoHoHow · 25/12/2013 19:41

Girl. Lovely name though.

Bowlersarm · 25/12/2013 19:44

Girl.

Harper Lee, To Kill A Mocking Bird.

And clearly Harper Beckham.

Gileswithachainsaw · 25/12/2013 19:51

Girl. I think of Harper(character) from er not the beckhams :)

NoSquirrels · 25/12/2013 20:05

I know one, and he's a boy!

But I would say it's a girl's name. Apparently it is traditionally an English boy's name, but Harper Lee made it popular as a girl's name. And the Beckhams, of course!

HermioneWeasley · 25/12/2013 20:07

Had only ever heard of Harper Lee pre Beckhams.

I used to like it, but would be put off using it now because of the Beckham association.

ToffeeJungle · 25/12/2013 20:10

Girls name.
Only know of Harper Lee and now obviously Harper Beckham.
Not keen on it really.

Beachballfamily · 25/12/2013 21:13

We live in the US where it is increasingly popular for girls (don't know any male harpers) and there is zero Beckham association. It's a big world out there - even in the UK, not everyone knows what celebrities' kids are called. I love it.

natandmat · 25/12/2013 23:54

It's my daughters name so I would definitely say girl!

I would like to point out she is 4 so pre Beckham!

HyvaPaiva · 25/12/2013 23:55

Surname to me, sorry.

DramaAlpaca · 25/12/2013 23:57

Surname to me as well. Not nice as a first name.

Alisvolatpropiis · 26/12/2013 00:02

Either.

I'd think Harper Lee first.

ShrekTheHalls · 26/12/2013 00:03

neiher. it's a surname.

ShrekTheHalls · 26/12/2013 00:03

neither (sorry typo)

Breezy1985 · 26/12/2013 00:06

Girls. I know a gorgeous little Harper, she's 1. Few comments at first about the Beckhams but none now.

I'd think Harper Lee first. I love it and it would be on my girl list if not for the Beckham association - I don't mind the Beckhams but I don't want people thinking I took my name idea from them rather than Harper Lee, which is the true inspiration.

diddl · 27/12/2013 12:16

Surname also.

Wasn't Harper Lee's name Nelle HL?

Which tbh sounds like Nelle plus two surnames.

Mrsfrumble · 02/01/2014 18:08

Paul Simon's son is called Harper. I like it for either.

And yes, Harper wasn't Harper Lee's real first name.

pumpkinsweetie · 02/01/2014 18:11

Don't like it, it sounds like a surname imho
