I don't love any boy's names

We are sorted for girl's names, in fact we were spoilt for choice. I just can't get excited about boy's names and I'm starting to panic as I'm due in 3 weeks and don't want to be choosing a name in a panic when I'm even more exhausted and hormonal than I am now.

Most of the names we really love have been used by family and friends and whilst we have a shortlist of names we like I don't love any of them and I'm worried that I should really love the name we are giving our baby.

Our shortlist is:
Jude
Arlo
Holden
Sebastian

Any opinions on these names or suggestions for others we might love? Also please do tell me if I'm overthinking this and getting too hung up on having to love a name and if it's ok just to like one.

I love Sebastian and arlo.

What about archer , jonah , isaiah , levi .

Lullabyte · 14/12/2013 09:50

I'll second Archer and add...

Zooey (since you like Holden!) - pronounced 'Zo-ee'
Barnaby
Elias
Seymour
Inigo

Lullabyte · 14/12/2013 09:52

Btw, love Jude, Holden and Arlo from your list.

Lullabyte · 14/12/2013 09:53

And I like Sebastian when used as a second name for Jude or Arlo -

Jude Sebastian
Arlo Sebastian

Also adore the name Rafe!

DancingLady · 14/12/2013 09:56

Zooey is a girl's name though?

I like all your list. What about Milo, Rowan, Francis, Syd, Nile... Clutching at straws, sorry. I suck at boys names.

Thanks for all the suggestions, there are some there to show DH and see what he thinks. Also good to know I'm not the only one who struggles with boy's names!

The other option is our nickname for the bump, which is a boy's name, but is also the name of my aunt's ex husband and my slightly mad SIL's dog both of which are reasons not to use it, however we've been using the name for so long it has grown on us. Would we be mad to use a name with those associations? Especially given that SIL will probably think we named the baby after her dog...

I had problems with boys names - none that I loved so we went for a name we could live with both times. Now, of course, I love their names as they are their names iyswim.

Ozias

Pip
Bertie
Io

Fabian
Hart
Cato

Auden

Zooey is male, Zoé is female. Smile

Lullabyte · 14/12/2013 14:50

Or maybe the accent is angled the other way - I can't remember off hand!

Lullabyte · 14/12/2013 14:56

Fwiw, I believe that Zooey Deschanel (or however her surname is spelled!) was named after the male Zooey in Salinger's Franny & Zooey. Great book, btw!

brimfullofasha · 14/12/2013 14:59

Love your list. Holden is my favourite.

ItStillLooksLikeRainDear · 14/12/2013 15:03

What are the girls names you love? Are there masculine forms of those?

ToffeeJungle · 14/12/2013 16:03

I like Sebastian.

Riley
Jackson
Tate
Harris
Ellis
Amos
Linus
Silas
Drew
Maxwell
Indiana

soontobeslendergirl · 14/12/2013 17:23

You don't need to love it honestly - you'll love the baby/chlid/man and the name will be his.

Based on your shortlist, what about:

Sylvester
Hayden
Ivo
Gregory

Anri · 15/12/2013 20:43

In Franny and Zooey, Zooey is a nickname. His full first name is Zachary. Something to be aware of, though it is cute on a boy!

I like all four of the names you listed.

Levon
Boaz
Joachim
Harlan
Bede
Joah
Anno (I've liked this since finding out that Jane Birkin had a grandson called this. Another nickname - his full first name was Alexander, and Anno was taken from a Japanese book he liked when he was young.)
Cyprian
Artem
Hollis
Ezra
Silvan or Sylvan

Anri · 15/12/2013 20:45

My mistake - Jane Birkin had a nephew called Anno, not a grandson.

moas · 16/12/2013 17:11

I love Roald but can't use it because it's my friend's first choice if she has a boy.
