Hi all, I have a wonderful friend (non-mumsneter) who's due in just a couple of weeks and she's completely stumped on names for a boy. Her eldest is Sam and she loves the name Jack but is worried by just how popular it is at the moment. Can you think of anything in a similar vein? Thanks.

Sim? Short for Simeon. think it slips off the tongue in the same way as Jack.

I have a Jack. Well he answers to Jack Jack Confused

He's one of 2 out of 40 in his year group and was the only one all through nursery.

Definitely the area. I have a 9 yr old Jack and very few in this part . I knew of 1 other in his school .

I forgot to consider his initial with our surname, which begins with s though - it makes him jack.a.s!!!! (jackass)

I'll be honest, if she already has a Sam she may as well also have a Jack. It's a bit too late to be worrying about kit using really popular names.

She could have Zachary but shorten to Zach or Isaac which again could be shortened to Zach. Also Jake is quite similar. I love Ted, Freddie, & seb at the moment but husband hates them all. My wee man is coming out by c section next Friday and still we've no name!!

Totally outing myself here but I have a Jack (4) and a Charlie (8) Seemingly the most popular boys names of all time.
However, I don't know of one single other Jack or Charlie of their generation.

Tell your friend to go for it! I also love Sam, which is my next choice of boys name (not that I plan on having any more children!)
