Luka a girl's name...?

Just reading celeb magazine & saw that Holly Valance has had a baby girl & named her Luka.

Am intrigued as I thought Luka was totally a boy's name.

Don't know if we're having a boy or girl, we'd really love Luca for a boy...didn't cross my mind that it could be a girl's name!
What do others think? Maybe I should get reading baby name books...

I've only ever known boys called Luca.

Everytime I hear the name I just think if the Susan Vega song. If you haven't heard it I'd see if its on youtube.

I know two Luka of each gender.

I think Luka, spelt like that is fine for a girls name but i wouldn't spell it like Luca for a girl. I think it some countries Luka is regarded as a girls name.

BTW my dd old teacher had a dd called Luka. I really like the name Luka for a girl and Luca for a boy. They are both fabulous names imo

Ah I think I recall the Suzanne Vega song tune tho I didn't realise it was called Luka?

It's an interesting twist on the boys version of Luca...didn't realise it's a girls name too.

Here in the UK I've not met any females called Luka and know only one Luca but it's spelt with an S as his parents are French...he's got over getting annoyed having to correct everyone who calls him Lu-cas, whereas in France he's always Lu-ca(s).

You do realize the Suzanne Vega song is talking about a boy named Luka right? He even appears in the video. Anyway, dont like Luka for a girl.
