A sibling for Freddie?

DS is Frederick, nn Freddie, and I am pg with DC2. We haven't found out the sex.

We've got 4 or 5 girls names in mind, but can't think of any boys names that we like, apart from maybe Arthur - which I am worried is a bit too popular (DS's best friend is called Arthur, plus we know at least 2 others).

Also thought of Alfred, but our surname starts with a D, so might be difficult to say together, plus it could also be shortened to Freddie/Fred, so it would be odd to have 2 DS with potentially the same nn.

Any ideas?

Rodney or Jane? :o

Sorry, serious face on now!

Albert! Bertie is a great nn

daughterofafarmer · 03/12/2013 22:30

Personally I won't go for Alfred far too similar name.

What about Alistair? nn Ally or Al.

Tikkamasala · 03/12/2013 22:38

I like Arthur and think its great with frederick. from the pp i also really like Alastair, ally.

Other ideas,

Magnus
Louis
Theodore, theo
Rafferty, raffy or rafe
Edward, teddy or ned (maybe too popular?)
Benjamin or Benedict, Ben
Daniel
Phillip, pip
Arnold (not sure but could be seen as similar to Alfred?)
Archer/Archie
Stanley?

I knew you ladies would be able to help!

So from the above suggestions I really like (but hadn't previously thought of):
Albert / Bertie
Archer / Archie

I also like Edward / Ed, but it's DNephew's name, so can't use that.

And I've thought about Benjamin and Daniel, some days I like them and other days not so sure.

And I think you are right , Alfred is out Sad but maybe I could have Wilfred and then still have an Alfie? (although Freddie and Alfie sounds like a cbeebies programme!).

Any others?

But with Wilfred you still get the Fred that you are trying to avoid.

Robert/Bertie
Rory
Oscar
Harry
Henry
Oliver

Lebkuchenlover · 04/12/2013 10:10

I wouldn't have Alfred/Alfie/Freddie or Wilfred/Wilf/Freddie with Frederick/Freddie - they're far too similar imo.

In fact, choose a non -ie name to go with Freddie such as
Theodore/Theo
Quentin/Quinn
Stanley/Stan
Dominic/Dom
Reuben
Sebastian

daughterofafarmer · 04/12/2013 10:42

Agree with Alfie, I think you need to save it for the dog Wink

What about just Wilf?

ToffeeJungle · 04/12/2013 11:10

You do need to avoid anything with a potential nn of Fred.

The Freddie I know has a brother Samuel.

William
Richard
Robert
Matthew
Peter
Philip
Michael
Harry / Henry
Victor
Lionel
Leonard / Lenny
Kenneth / Kenny
David
Edmund
Nicholas
George

beela · 05/12/2013 14:44

Ok, Alfred and Wilfred are out. And anything else -fred.

Harry / Henry could go on the list.

Gah! I hope it's a girl...

What about Hugh?

Or even Hugo, IMHO Hugh is much nicer than Hugo

Rooners · 05/12/2013 16:31

Arthur is good

Rooners · 05/12/2013 16:32

Art for short

Tapiocapearl · 05/12/2013 20:17

Wilfred or Stanley

Tapiocapearl · 05/12/2013 20:18

Wilf or will and stan

Theonlyoneiknow · 06/12/2013 09:58

Jack
Hamish
Alexander
Kyle
Zac
Oscar
Thomas
Gabriel

Mrswellyboot · 06/12/2013 10:02

You couldn't have Freddie and Eddie so would avoid Edward.
Hugh is gorgeous.
Stanley sounds perfect with Freddie I think.

Frederick and Albert?

HoneyandRum · 06/12/2013 11:49

Nicolas/Nick I like that it is a strong contrast to Freddie. Oh and coincidently it is St. Nicolas Day today!!! (I wonder why it came to mind! - I am in Germany)

pinkgirlythoughts · 07/12/2013 18:59

OP when I started to read your post I honestly thought it was an old post I had written! My DS is also Frederick, nn Freddie, and Arthur was another name we considered for him. His middle name is Benjamin, so I also think they go well together :)

Other boys names we like for DC2 are:
Stanley (But have heard a couple of people tell me they know of Freddie/Stanley brother pairs, so I worry it's getting too predictable)
Sidney
Alexander
Hamish
Henry
Joseph

pinkgirlythoughts · 07/12/2013 19:00

oh, and Albert (Albie), but DH doesn't like that one!

clary · 08/12/2013 01:57

Yeah, Arthur and Freddie are great names Grin

I don't know many Arthurs at all tho I do know a few small Freddies.

I also like
Stanley
Angus
Albert (I agree Alfred is too close)
George
William (popular tho)
Edwin
Henry
Or Arthur?? What a great name that is!

PS I long to know your girls' names OP

beela · 21/12/2013 07:58

Only just come back to this Blush.

pinkgirlythoughts our Freddie's middle name is Joseph! We should definitely share a list Grin

So I had Arthur as number one, until the other day when a colleague started talking about a little Arthur she had met, and what an unfortunately old fashioned name it was. Now I am doubting myself (but not too much).

As for our girl's name... Megan Lucy is the current fave. Don't confuse me with any suggestions on that one though!

Arthur is fabulous, a regal yet underused name. People aged 50+ may dislike it but they are the same people that probably already dislike Freddie and would hate Stanley etc. My MiL still thinks Lily and Rose are ridiculous old fashioned names.
