Daft question - can we have a William and a Lillian?

That's it really. We have a William and are expecting DC2 in April.

We like Lily so will probably go with that, but my friend's mum's name is Lillian and it got me thinking how much i like it. Thus giving us the option to have Lily or Lillian.

Or is William and Lillian just too much of a mouthful? Grin

Do you use Williams full name or is he shortened?

Siblings names are quite often said together- I do think any combo of Will and Lily or William and Lillian maybe a slight tongue twister.. Sorry!

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 27/11/2013 12:35

I think they'd end up as "Will and Lil" to everyone, even if not to your face (or "Willy and Lilly").
TBH, I wouldn't.

Layl77 · 27/11/2013 12:41

No! Will & lil or will & lily just as bad sorry!

As I suspected! That's fine, I don't reckon DH would go for it anyway. William is still known by his first name.

Thanks all Smile

No, William & Lillian or even Willy/Will & Lilly/Lil is way too similar, sorry.

bassingtonffrench · 27/11/2013 13:06

MarthasHarbour · 27/11/2013 13:21

You may call William William at home - but you can't control what his mates and other people will call him out of the house. I have a DF who was determined not to shorten her DSs name. She and her DH never do, but his little brother and all his school mates do.

heidihole · 27/11/2013 13:27

No you can't I'm afraid. Def too similar.

HyvaPaiva · 27/11/2013 13:27

No! Really no! Sorry, OP.

neolara · 27/11/2013 13:29

No! Really, you can't. Sorry.

namechangefornames · 27/11/2013 13:33

Nope. Sorry.

PrammyMammy · 27/11/2013 13:38

The twins on The Rugrats were Phil & Lil remember?
I think it's cute. Lillian is really nice.

Arcadian · 27/11/2013 14:00

Willy and Lily? Not a chance!

ShriekingGnawer · 27/11/2013 14:06

I know someone who has William and Lily and they are always William and Lily.

exexpat · 27/11/2013 14:09

I think those two names fail the 'shouting up the stairs test' for similarity - in 13 years' time when you are calling up the stairs for one grumpy teenager to come down, you will either get the wrong one answering, or no answer from anyone - "But I thought you were saying William/Lillian..."

It has never occurred to me before, I have an uncle Bill and Auntie Lillian!! The two eldest children in the family, and close in age. What were my Grandparents thinking? Though I do not recall on anyone ever commenting on it.I shall have to speak to them, will report back.

Use Lillian for a second name if you really like it.
