We aren't sure what the sex of the baby is, always thought it was a boy but need to prepare for a girl too and we just can't choose. not into girly girly names, surname ends in --y.

any suggestions very welcome as this baby could be here any minute!

Cara is fine, Erin is nice.

Roxy is awful. (It's short for Roxanne for a start). And I used to know one at uni who was very 'accommodating' to make students and liked to call herself Foxy Roxy. She was awful, which puts me off the name I'm afraid.

Mellowandfruitful · 23/11/2013 21:36

Of the three you've listed I would say Erin, then Cara. Not Roxy, sounds a bit dated.

There is a thread here about 'strong girls' names' which might have some suggestions for you. I'll see if I can find it.

HoneyandRum · 23/11/2013 21:37

Out of these three I like Cara - although I also like it with a K to emphasize the hard C sound, Kara.

Roxy is quite cute but sounds a bit dated, like it was in but is suddenly out. A lot ov people on here like Erin, but lived in the US and Erin has already really been overdone over there. It seems like it will be trendy. It is the name for Ireland so if you have Irish connections that would make sense.

HoneyandRum · 23/11/2013 21:38

Cross posted with the same opinions as Mellow on Roxy!

Mellowandfruitful · 23/11/2013 21:39

Honey great minds...!

whatswrongdownthere · 23/11/2013 21:56

thanks for your thoughts! we are in ireland and there aren't many girls called Erin here, i love the name, DH's arm could be twisted. he likes Mia but i'm not keen...lovely name but too many recently. My boss has a daughter called Cara...you reckon it would be OK to use it?

thanks for the link too :)

Re. Roxy - DH just suggested it maybe sounds too much like a hooker so i'm guessing it's off the list!!

Erin and Cara are lovely.

Mellowandfruitful · 23/11/2013 23:02

I wouldn't worry about the boss's daughter - who knows how long s/he will be your boss? Use it if you like it.

Hope baby arrives soon and safely!

sandfrog · 23/11/2013 23:22

Cara is a lovely name.

mummy1973 · 23/11/2013 23:23

Erin is lovely.

BOF · 23/11/2013 23:26

Anything but Roxy- it sounds like a stripper's name.

Honestly, Baby Roxy? Nah.

Retroformica · 23/11/2013 23:59

Cara - lovely well mannered bright button, even tempered.
Roxy- bit rough, tight short shirts, short of money, gum
Erin - brain box, glasses, timid, polite.

There's also Clara

Devora · 24/11/2013 00:03

Cara and Erin are nice. Also Tara and Cora?

Zhx3 · 24/11/2013 00:06

Love Cara, if dc3 had been a girl, that would have been her name.

Also Kara or Caragh?

SupermansBigRedReindeerNose · 24/11/2013 00:26

I know two c/karas and they are both very opinionated, a bit daft and very very blunt Grin my beautiful dd2's middle name was erin I adore it, I have met a lovy grown erin who is shy, kind, quick witted and funny. Roxy I really don't take too unfortunately.

PicardyThird · 24/11/2013 00:56

Cara is lovely (second the suggestion of Clara). Erin is OK, but I wouldn't choose it myself. Please, please not Roxy.

Ellen? Anna? Madeleine? How about Maren? (It's a Nordic form of Marina, pronounced with a long A. I've known a couple of German people called it and think it's very strong and pretty).

OutragedFromLeeds · 24/11/2013 01:10

Cara is nice. I like Clara or Cora better though.
Erin is ok.
Roxy is terrible.

CointreauVersial · 24/11/2013 01:11

Erin Wink

peanutMD · 24/11/2013 01:11

I have an 8 month old Cara and a 25 year old friend called Cara, both seem like fairly decent people :o

I dithered with C and K spelling but was then told Kara is a Polish potato or something lol

TheDoctrineOfWho · 24/11/2013 01:13

Cara is nice.
What about Carla?

sleepingbeautiful · 24/11/2013 07:15
  1. Cara
  2. Erin
  3. anything but Roxy
SatinSandals · 24/11/2013 07:20

Erin or change Cara to Clara.

ifyouwish · 24/11/2013 07:35

Love Cara, like Erin Smile

whatswrongdownthere · 24/11/2013 10:24

ok so roxy is definitely off the list!!! thanks for your opinions :)

i love the name Carla but i have a very close friend with the name and it would be a bit wierd.

Clara was on the list to but we prefer Cara (with a C - means 'friend' in Irish).

Also came up with Isla as a possibility?

Madeleine is also lovely but i'm not sure it goes with our surname. I love Anna, DH isn't convinced - maybe Annie?
