Abby - what can it be short for?

Except for Abigail, of course!

I really like it (or Abbie) but not majorly keen on the full form. However I want to give her (if it is a her!) a more formal option.

Abbess? Abscess? Abate? Abatement? Abba?

Sorry, I don't know of anything.

Abishag.

Hebrew for 'My father strays'

This is no word of a lie! Shock

Assuming you fail to like that one Wink what about Abijah or Abella?

itsnothingoriginal · 13/11/2013 20:58

I know quite a few girls who are just 'Abbie'. I'm an Abby short for Abigail but am never known by my full name - a bit of a pain really as most people assume I use the full version so I have to do a lot of correcting!!

Gabrielle/Gabriella?

Abiola web gives it as Nigerian and given to girls born in the new year.
All I know is she was a lovely black African studies student from the next flat who gave me tea and tissues when I had a stinking cold. Meanwhile my flat mates were being noisy and unpleasant.

She was always known as Abby.

I knew an Abby whose full name was Gabrielle (her parents didn't like Gabby) and one who is just Abby, no longer name.
