Last thread I promise!! Matilda vs Daisy pros & cons

It's me again! Time is drawing to a close & after my post last night about a middle name for Daisy Dh has decided he doesn't like Daisy & has gone back to a name I love too-Matilda. I choose Dd1's name Molly so Dh wants input into this one. So firstly apologies re all tge very similar posts, we have decided not to discuss our choices with people due to negative comments plus pressure from MIL to name baby after her, we just want to get it right!

Dd is only 1 & we have a small circle so don't know any Daisy or Matilda. So talk to me about the pros & cons of

Matilda Florence
vs
Daisy Ophelia

Appreciate everyone's help in this!!!

Eviltwin & seasalt we obviously have amazing taste in names!!! At the moment I am definitly veering towards Matilda Florence would like to be able to use Ophelia as a middle name but Matilda Ophelia is away too much of a mouthful whereas Matilda Florence has a nice flow & vintage feel.
Seasalt does your Matilda get Tilly much?

Matilda Florence is gorgeous.

(I really like Tilda as a nn)

YummyMummybee · 15/11/2013 09:37

Math anxiety I think I remember from other threads that you are in Ireland, just out of curiousity are Matilda/Florence or Daisy popular over there? Both Dh & I have Irish relatives & I would love to know what they would think of our choice! From recent announcements from our Irish cousins it seems Irish names are very popular still over there x

Love them both and my baby who is due anytime will be one or the other. I decided I couldn't choose so will wait until she's born and then decide, although I think she will be Daisy. I'm like you too I won't give her Matilda as a middle name as I'm 'saving' or vice versa as want to save it for possible future DD Grin

Rtfairy · 15/11/2013 11:14

That meant to say I won't give or the name I don't choose as middle as I want to save it for future possible DD!

mathanxiety · 16/11/2013 08:15

They are not popular in Ireland. Top 100 names in Ireland 2012. Daisy is number 91 and Matilda and Florence are not in the top 100.

DessieLou · 16/11/2013 10:05

Definately Matilda Florence! Gorgeous! Tilly & Molly is quite cute. I love Matilda but we have a Madeleine & not sure it goes.

Matchthecase · 16/11/2013 14:35

Matilda. It's feisty and stronger than Daisy which is a bit of a weak name imo.

Rockinhippy · 16/11/2013 14:50

Prefer Matilda by miles,

both are pretty common names now, but Matilda lends itself far better to a choice of NNs to either suit your DDs developing personality or allows her to chose a name that sets her apart from her peers in school etc etc - Tilda, Tizzy, Tilly, Tiz, Mata, Mattie, Mat, or just Matilda, there's probably more, it's one of those lovely names that gives a lot of choice

Daisy is just that, though the ones I know end up being nn Daze in school - which I don't like at all, I also think its a bit too twee if your DD grows up to be an elegant swishy haired type

NoComet · 16/11/2013 15:10

Matilda Florance (then she can be Tilly if she doesn't want to alliterate with her sister and Matie if she does) DSIS and I both share the same initial, I rather like it.

Daisy is 'too flowery' and Ophelia is just pretentious

YummyMummybee · 16/11/2013 15:11

Rockhippy, think we are going to go with Matilda Florence, thought we would be happy with nn Tilly but Tizzy is fairly funky too!!

Dessielou, Madeline is gorge but I think Matilda is too similar & you could end up with a Mattie & Maddie depending on what their respective friends choose to nn them...

Mathanxiety that is incredible that Matilda & Florence are so popular here yet not even in the top 100 in Ireland. Daisy only no 91!!!

Rt fairy, when are you due? Can't wait to see what you decide? 2 gorgeous names whatever you choose! Dh thinks I'm mad not wanting to use either for a middle name he says no3 may well be a boy, 50% chance that it might but we have our boys name picked for years!!! We always assumed we would be naming this baby after MIL but her treatment towards us of late has made us reconsider & now we won't even be using her name as middle name, I'm sure lots of drama & comments on our awful name choice will follow but I don't care!!! Well I thought it would be so easy to find a name we both loved as I love loads of girls names but all we kept coming back to were Daisy & Matilda!!

Congratulations :)

Rockinhippy · 16/11/2013 15:23

I forgot if you go for the traditional Mathilda spelling, you also have NNs of Hilda, Hilly too

Rockinhippy · 16/11/2013 15:24

I lost & Hizzy there too Confused :)

fruitpastille · 16/11/2013 15:39

I have a Matilda, nn Tilly. Or Till Bob quite often! There is another in her school class and in her swimming class so you never know re popularity! Much better than Daisy imo.

mathanxiety · 16/11/2013 20:04

I never thought of Tizzy as a nn but it's gorgeous Smile.
I love Matilda Florence.

Have just noticed Martin, Brian and Stephen between 89 and 100 in the boys' list there for Ireland, so there is no telling what the Irish rellies will make of Matilda Florence.

Rtfairy · 17/11/2013 09:16

I am due on 24th November so one more week! When are you due? Smile

YummyMummybee · 17/11/2013 09:29

Oooh best of luck & update us on what you decide!! I'm due Jan 20th another 9 weeks to go!!!!!xxx

Mumpiring · 17/11/2013 09:34

Matilda but dont use tilly for short or it will all be a bit tilly molly mandy. I prefer daisy but molly and daisy like kittens. Molly and matilda - humans!

Mumpiring · 17/11/2013 09:37

Im irish in ireland and those choices sound mainstreamto me. I know chisellers with those names.

Tikkamasala · 17/11/2013 12:51

Fwiw I know a lawyer called daisy.

I think I prefer daisy but I would prefer daisy Florence to daisy Ophelia.

Tikkamasala · 17/11/2013 12:53

Oh sorry, just seen you are going Matilda Florence so ignore that! It's a nice choice, congrats

Milkhell · 18/11/2013 14:21

I like Matilda

Rtfairy · 27/11/2013 22:02

Yummymummy just thought I'd give you an update on our very similar Daisy/Matlida situation. Daisy was born this morning, she's definitely a Daisy and her middle name is Elizabeth Smile

YummyMummybee · 27/11/2013 22:05

Omg Rtfairy I was thinking of you yesterday & wondering if you had your little princess already, thanks for the update, beautiful name & congratulations! Enjoy every second of your precious Daisy xxxx
