I think I really like it, might be cos Tig on telly is really sweet. Must be short for something though?

Antigone

bootsycollins · 09/11/2013 20:50

Prince Willam and Harry's nanny was called Tiggy Legge-Bourke. Sounds like a weird tropical disease now I've typed it.

RobinSparkles · 09/11/2013 20:50

Tigan?

bootsycollins · 09/11/2013 20:51

Tegan?

littlegem12 · 09/11/2013 21:01

I thought someone would of referred to it by now in the program if there was a full version. Their Scottish.

I know a Teagan who gets called Tiggy so maybe that's it

HoratiaDrelincourt · 09/11/2013 21:13

I know a 3yo Antigone nn Tig or Tiggy. Like it but wouldn't be brave enough to use it.

thegreylady · 10/11/2013 12:13

Antigone surely

GreatJoanUmber · 10/11/2013 20:28

This is really growing on me!
What are people's thoughts on Antigone nn Tig? Is it a bit too out there?
Also not sure about the associations, given that her story was rather a tragic one...

Vatta · 10/11/2013 20:38

Twiggy legge bourke's real name was Alexandra, so it must have been a jokey nickname.

I like Antigone.

littlegem12 · 10/11/2013 20:40

I think I was just really hoping someone would say Tig is a real name!
I wouldn't want to give my child a long name i'm not crazy about so that I could nn them a small part of the name, when she is called by her full name I'd feel like correcting the person saying it.
Seems daft correcting someone for calling your child by the name you gave them IYSWIM.

What about as a nickname for Tabitha? Haven't seen the show but it is a very cute nickname.

Aarow · 13/11/2013 17:27

I know a Tig called Tamsin. Is this Tig's real name Betsy? I heard it was.

hellymelly · 13/11/2013 17:31

I had a cat called tig.

NarwhalKnickers · 13/11/2013 17:36

I know a Tabitha shortened to Tiggy and an Antigone who is Tig.

nancerama · 13/11/2013 17:45

Tiggy the nanny was nicknamed after Mrs Tiggywinkle, I think.

No idea about Wooly's sidekick though.

On difficult days with DS, I do find myself musing "what would wooly do?"

littlegem12 · 13/11/2013 19:47

I saw that on the credits but I thought Betsy was the actress for character Tig, like Nina from Nina and the neurons is called Katrina. I couldn't imagine Tig being short for Betsy.
I already had to defend ds name and explain 'yes its he's real name' cant be arsed with that again.

It's short for Theresa I'm sure. I used to know a Tiggy who was actually Theresa.

My Daughters name is Tig. Our eldest is Tarlie and we wanted another unusual T name for her. We loved the name but kept changing our minds as it’s very different. It suits her so much and I’m so glad we named her Tig now. She loves her name and everyone comments on it.

Werehamster · 10/11/2021 16:00

I was thinking of Tig Notaro but apparently her name is actually Mathilde.

If you like Tig, just use Tig, there are loads of kids with nicknames as names like Alfie, Archie, etc.

@MW92 Any reason you felt the need to revive an eight year old thread to tell us this?

That was just a posh nursery name, she's called Olivia or Alexandra or something.

It sounds like a posh aristo nn like Bobo or Snook, so just make it a nn? It's not a name.

Def Antigone
