DH thinks my name is "too weak"

Almost 40 weeks with DS2 and have always loved the name "rose". But now DH wants to review it as he thinks it's quite a "weak" sounding name.
I think it's actually quite a strong name due to its symbolic connections (symbol of england), it's a classic Tudor name (therefore not a modern name which we wanted to avoid). Yes it's pretty and cutesy but even as a flower it's strong, yet elegant.
Am I all wrong about this? Regardless whether you like the name or not (we both agree it's a great name), when you hear it do you think "strong" or "weak"??

On its own it is strong. Basically not many people use it as a first name though there are thousands of middle name Roses.

So as a first name it is really strong. I love it.

I really love it too. DH surprised me at the weekend by saying it was his top girl's name and he'd like to use it if dc2 turns out to be a girl so its definitely on our list.

Do you mean DD2 rather than DS2?

TBH I don't think it's either a weak or strong name, it's in the middle.

To be honest, I think it's far too feminine to use for a boy. Unless it's a family name being used as a middle name. But definitely too many little female Roses around for it to be useable as a first name, even if that was common in Tudor times.
Poor thing would be teased and bullied mercilessly these days IMO

Rose is a fine grown up/strong do anything name. Rosie is a bit wet/cutesy beyond about 5. I have one, if she wants to be a really butch Harley riding motor mechanic maybe she'll be " Roz" one day but It's a name that'll take her through life. (BTW she's never been Rosie - her mates tried at school but she had none of it!)

well she survived the titanic so I would say its pretty strong rosanna is in my top names xx

It's my DD's name so obviously I love it Not weak at all. I picked it as it's a beautiful classic name and not overused. Go for it ! Also love Rosa but agree with other posters about Rosie

Rose as first name is nice - I prefer rosalind though and think that is a stronger version.

I think on the whole, one syllable names sound strong. It's the Molly, Dolly, Holly names that I think sound cutesy and sweet. I also really like Rosa.

Love it and all its variants. Rosa is particularly pretty and Rosamund is lovely.

It's lovely. My niece is called Rose, its a strong but pretty name.

Depends what colour rose comes to mind! Red - strong, pale pink - sweet and girly.

I like it. Much more than Rosie.
