Hi everyone Smile

I'm 36 weeks pregnant with dc1 and we don't know the sex of the baby so having fun choosing names for both a boy and girl Smile

For a boy we have settled on Thomas William but still struggling with a girls name.

This is our potential list (our surname begins with N by the way)

Elise (both quite keen on this but unsure about middle name)
Annabelle
Anya
Emily
Chloe
Eve
Jessica
Niamh (both like - I love it but DH is worried about the unusual spelling. Plus our surname begins with N?)

All thoughts/opinions and suggestions welcome Smile

TIA

Out of those I only really like Niamh (and you get used to the spelling)

I don't mind Anabelle its the sort of name I think " oh pretty" when I hear,
The others are all imo safe names. Apart from Anya but I have known 2 horrid ones so cant get past that.

Grumblelion · 01/11/2013 15:13

I like all of those and would have been happy to call DD any of them (except perhaps Annabelle).

Favourite is probably Anya but with an surname beginning with N not sure how well it would roll off the tongue? Might be fine depending on the name!
If you both like Niamh have you considered the alternate spelling Neve?
Middle names for Elise
Elise Rebecca
Elise Catherine
Elise Charlotte
Elise Marie
Elise Mary
Do you have any family names that would work?

The only other thing to consider is that many of those names are very very popular (Elise may get shortened to Ellie as well)- this bothers some people more than others. We didn't want a very popular first name but liked our extremely popular middle name enough that we didn't care about using it - only you can decide I think!

My favourite girls name is Chloe, love it!
Also like Anya, very pretty.
Not as keen on the others and personally would avoid an 'N' name as I don't like alliteration.
Elise is ok though prefer Eliza.

Congratulations!

I like Elise, Annabelle and Anya from your list. I think the same though that Elise is difficult to find a middle name for. It needs to be something long I think. Have you considered it as a middle name? I think it's a great middle name. Perhaps Annabelle Elise?

LondonNightmareInGhostlyBoots · 01/11/2013 21:10

I love Niamh, surely people can say the name by now its not like it is unusual any more Hmm. Its really not hard to spell, and some people will ALWAYS spell names wrong. I saw someone spell Jane wrong at work today, spelling it Jayne automatically Hmm

I think it is fine with an N surname as long as you have a non -N middle name -Niamh Natalie N might be a bit much! Nimah Elise is very nice.

I like Elise too, Niamh much nicer though. All Elises I know (all 3 of them, not much of a cross section I know!) are called Lise. Not a fan of the rest of the list.

MomentForLife · 01/11/2013 21:14

Eve is the nicest I think.

JimmyCorkhill · 01/11/2013 21:21

Elise is lovely. Much more unusual than the others. Really pretty.

NadiaWadia · 01/11/2013 21:30

They are all great names. I would choose Annabel with just one 'l' though, as the 'belle' ending seems unnecessarily frilly. Eve is very popular at the moment, if that bothers you. Jessica some people might think of as more an 80s name, if you think that matters. Still lovely, though.

Tikkamasala · 02/11/2013 00:31

Definitely Elise or Niamh both gorgeous. The others nice enough but so popular they don't have as much appeal, safe choices but nothing wow.

Wishfulmakeupping · 02/11/2013 00:45

Agree with Nadia I prefer Annabel spelling and that would be my top choice Niamh both lovely

Yika · 02/11/2013 09:19

All lovely names. Anya is my favourite but I like Elise too as it's a little more unusual. I think it would be nice with a longish middle name beginning with A. I also like the combination Annabelle Elise, and she could still go by the name Elise.
Elise Alana
Elise Adriana
Elise Ariane
Elise arabella
Elise Antonia

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/11/2013 18:12

Elise or Niamh - both lovely. But wouldn't do Niamh with a 'N' surname tbh.

Elise Marianne
Elise Constance
Elise Clover
Elise Vivienne
Elise Naomi
Elise Faye
Elise Joy
Elise Miranda
Elise Claire

Oriunda · 02/11/2013 21:06

Elise (or even Elisa) my favourite

PumpkinPie2013 · 03/11/2013 13:29

Sorry for only just coming back - thanks for all the suggestions/opinions Smile

Looks like Elise or Niamh Smile

Just need to choose now and pick middle name!
