Strong and not so fluffy girl's names - help please

Hi all,

We've got a very short list of girl names we like, it would be great to get your opinions on them and also if you can think of any other names on the same line.

Sarah (already thought of a middle name to match - Annabelle)
Anna
Abigail

Our surname is rare so needs to be spelt out all the time so maybe a less complex first name will be a good match. Also we have a son called Elliot if that's any help.

Thanks in advance, we'd appreciate it as we've hit a bit of a naming block.

How about Claire? Strong yet feminine and no danger of it being shortened to any cutesy/ fluffy nickname

Rosanna. Though people annoyingly add an 'e' in the middle. Hard to shorten except to Rosie which is fine. Worth remembering that children always always shorten names

Littlemissexpecting · 30/10/2013 16:26

How about Anya, similar to Anna which I also like. Also like Annie.
Hannah
Ivy
Aimee or Amy

What about Alexandra? I love Abigail as well, it was on our shortlist for girl names!

Great names all!

Georgia's a great name, I wonder if it would become a bit more popular now because of Prince George though?

Georgia was our name until Prince George. dh went right off it and then so did I Sad

but it is lovely!

Laura44 · 30/10/2013 16:51

I agree NotYoMomma, it would make the list if it wasn't for the prince.

I don't know why I find girls names so hard. When it comes to boys names I love so many but I haven't found a girls name I love yet.

From your list, I think Sarah is nice and under-used at the moment. I would go for Annabel spelling of mn though if you don't want fluffy. I know 3 baby/toddler Abigails if that bothers you - two are Abigail Grace. Like the Amy suggestion you added. The one I know is a real little cute muddy knees tree climber so that may bias me :)

Other suggestions:
Jennifer
Nancy
Joanna
Bethan
Megan
Margot

Thanks sleepingbeautiful, great idea in simplifying the spelling of Annabelle.

I have 3 daughters, the youngest is Anna. It's a beautiful name - out of my 3, it's probably the name I'm complimented most on.

Dd2s middle name is Sarah (Sadie) Smile , so you've great taste!

With dd3 we also considered Tess (as a stand alone name), Stella, Lara.

Alice- all Alice's are really cool

Charlotte- good nicknames
Zara- similar to Sarah

Hey, I am really cool !
I am not girly, and not a fan of girly girly names. DD was going to be Anna, but some v close (socially and geographically) friends have a slightly older dd called Anna. So dd (2) is Amy, and suits her really well. She is v tomboy with a streak of femininity.

Tara
Astrid
Gaia ?

I adore Anna, it would be on my shortlist if it wasn't for DP's surname.

What about Robyn?

Another vote for Faith as well.
