Nicole/Nicolette/Nicoletta

My DSis and DBIL are intending to call their DD a 'Nic' name (no pun intended!) to honour his late father (Nicholas). Which of these do you think are good/bad? Any other suggestions as well, other than Nicola which they're not keen on? I can't decide which I like best, personally.

TIA!

Um, obviously Nicoletta without a space!

I really like Nicoletta however the only one I know is Italian so it's more "natural"

squoosh · 29/10/2013 11:11

It's not on your list but I Love Nico.

From your list I'd pick Nicole, it's a bit 80s but I still think it's pretty.

RosebudTheCat · 29/10/2013 12:01

Hadn't thought of Nico... will pass it on, thank you!

I love Nicole.

Nico to me is a boys name, as I know two!

Littlecherublegs · 29/10/2013 14:00

Nicole, love it!

Littlecherublegs · 29/10/2013 14:01

Oh and I knew of a Nicarla once, nn Nic / Nicki - think her father was Iranian.

UriGHOULer · 29/10/2013 14:05

I love them all. Sorry that's no help.

Nicole could be a bit Shertzsinger (or however its spelled) so I'd go for Nicolette/a

Nico would be a cool nickname.

woodlandwanderwoman · 29/10/2013 14:08

So sorry but new as Bridget Jones astutely points out, Nicolette is a bit too similar to popular brand of smoking cessation aids.

Nicole and Nicola both lovely Grin

You could also take another approach of having nic in a name, not just a beginning... Like Anica, Monica, Danika, Veronica etc

neolara · 29/10/2013 14:10

I know a couple of boy Nicos, so not sure I'd go for that.

Leopoldina · 29/10/2013 15:04

Nico is a lovely tribute to Lou Reed too ;-)

elcranko · 29/10/2013 15:41

Nicole without doubt. I absolutely love this name!

neiljames77 · 29/10/2013 15:48

My youngest daughter is called Nicole but with our surname starting with a G, it doesn't seem to roll off the tongue when spoken. Make sure the whole name sounds right when you say it. We should have called her Nicola really but Nicole seemed more modern and fashionable.

YummyMummybee · 29/10/2013 20:43

Nicolina is also an Italian version if Nicola. It's v pretty!

RosebudTheCat · 29/10/2013 23:50

Seems Nicole is general favourite here...

Thank you all very much.

Nicole is lovely and classic, we had it on our list.

Unfortunately I can only think of the new Bridget Jones book now with Nicolette being like Nicorette!

terilou87 · 30/10/2013 16:20

My dd is called Nicole she gets called nic or Cole for short x

ZenNudist · 30/10/2013 22:15

I love nicole. Hate Nicola, think the other ones are not good. Nicolette sounds Like nicotine gum!

manicinsomniac · 30/10/2013 23:11

I also really like Nicole.

There's also Nikita.

mathanxiety · 31/10/2013 05:09

I think Nicole is horribly 90s. All of DD2's friends are either Nicole or have Nicole as their middle names.

Nicoletta is too Italian and frilly.

Nicolette otoh is really stylish. So is Colette, a short version.

GrandstandingBlueTit · 31/10/2013 08:38

You're naming a DD, right? As far as I'm concerned, Nikita is a big old middle-aged Russian man's name...

I think Nicole will stand the test of time more. Nicolette as second choice, and Nicoletta should be out of the running. Just too frilly.

mathanxiety · 01/11/2013 04:10

Nikita definitely a masculine name in my book.

Retroformica · 01/11/2013 06:12

Nicole is nice.
