This is my new favourite girls name.

Does it seem old fashioned to you?

I absolutely love iris, if i have another baby and its a girl thats what she'll be.

Kantha · 28/10/2013 06:32

I like it because it refers to a beautiful flower but avoids be twee/cutsie like lots of girls' names are.

littlegem12 · 28/10/2013 06:35

I like it alot

YomAsalYomBasal · 28/10/2013 06:35

Love it. Mainly due to the Goo Goo Dolls!

TallulahBetty · 28/10/2013 07:02

Love.

LadyCurd · 28/10/2013 07:04

Nooooo don't do it!

But only because when I picked two classic old fashioned and rare names for my DD's both have ended up increasing in popularity.

Iris may or may not have been one of those names.
Go rarer. Iris is the new Claire
;)

swoopyswoop · 28/10/2013 07:09

Iris is v nice but fairly trendy if that bothers you

elcranko · 28/10/2013 07:19

Love Iris! Would have been my DD's name if DH would have agreed Hmm

AuntieStella · 28/10/2013 07:30

Not to my taste, and yes I still see it as old fashioned, despite knowing two aged 12ish and several pre-schoolers with the name.

telsa · 28/10/2013 10:13

Very old fashioned and simultaneously overused. Don't add to the heap!

WinterOfOurDiscontent · 28/10/2013 10:17

I'm personally not keen.

weneedtotalkaboutkettles · 28/10/2013 10:33

I normally love flower names but Iris doesn't do it for me - don't know why - however there's certainly nothing "wrong" with it!

scarevola · 28/10/2013 10:37

My first association would be the body part, not a flower.

AndWhenYouGetThere · 28/10/2013 10:39

Love it.

BjorksNorks · 28/10/2013 10:42

My Mum's name and my eldest DD's middle name so biased but I really like it.

NotYoMomma · 28/10/2013 12:37

It's beautiful, alludes to the goddess of rainbows and the flower...BUT....also makes me think of eyeballs and is becoming very popular.

reelingintheyears · 28/10/2013 17:14

Eyeballs and old women with shampoo and sets, doesn't do it for me.

AnythingNotEverything · 28/10/2013 17:17

I love it, but I think it's the next Florence. Very of its time, and I think will become more and more popular.

Of course, tonne of that may bother you! I touted it for DD, but DH said it made him think of eyes.

smithwillsam · 29/10/2013 07:26

Iris as a first name gives you a very independent nature, yet you are friendly, approachable, and generous.

CarryOnDancing · 29/10/2013 23:02

I heard it a few years a go and thought "how lovely" when simultaneously my Dad said in my ear "who names their child after an eye?!" So now I just think of eyes and not flowers!

ginzillas · 31/10/2013 12:50

Love it. Know a gorgeous little one.
