Giving baby a similar name to your own...

I'm new to this but interested to see what people think...

Would you think it was odd to give your child a similar name to yourself, eg Annabel if your own name is Anna?

Mine is a variant of my DM's. I love it like that.

One of my favourite girl names is similar to mine, and I think it has the same root. I don't think I could as the shortening would be the same (though different initials) and I would think people would think I was being egotistical instead of because I just like the name. Plus the tiny point of never having produced a girl.

But please please don't let that put you off, that is personal. Anna and Annabel is OK for example as it is essentially a different name. But Anna and Hannah I think would be too close.

Funny how I would feel that looked egotistical but boys called after their dads still happens (not as much as it used to, used to be pretty standard) and no one would think that was egotistical.

I wouldn't. My name is Lois and we ruled out Lola for DD, being so similar.

Could get v confusing if initials or abbreviations are the same. But dd's middle name is my first name, so I don't think it is egotistical.
