How many middle names have you given/are you going to give your DC?

And have you used/are you going to use a family name or using it as an opportunity to add something a bit whacky?

My dd has three, she is hoing to hate me when she us older, with all her names and forms.

Ds has two.

Monkeymonstermum · 11/10/2013 12:10

2 - one is a family name (well a shortened version of my maiden surname) and the other a nod to my welsh-ness.
If no 2 is a boy will do the same, one welsh, the second the short version of maiden name. If a girl one welsh, the second a family name from husbands side.
PS I've always been jealous of my brothers who have 2 middle names when I only have 1 as they have the family name - hence why making sure if we have daughter she has same number of names as her brother!

I have three (much to the delight to friends when I got married last year, I could hear the giggles :D ) but only use the first one for most things, my middle brother has none and my youngest brother has two, possibly my parents were a little over-enthusatic when I was born and too tired then my brother came along lol

I haven't got one at all, and always felt a bit deprived ;-) Two of my kids (oldest and youngest) have one, randomly-chosen one each. The other two have two, which are family names. So no pattern or plan there!

Writerwannabe83 · 11/10/2013 12:45

We plan to give 2 surnames but that is because the first names we like are only one syllable and our surname is only one syllable too. We don't want a child with a short and stumpy name Smile There will be nothing weird or wacky about any of our names! Grin

No middle names for my kids because we gave them double barrelled surname and felt it was too much. Dbro was given df's name as a safe alternative to his very unusual first name, but he's never used it. I have a very short plain middle name, but I do agree with dm that it flows with my other names.

Both of my girls have one middle name. I didn't like the idea of naming them after anyone so neither of them are family-related. They're not the most common of middle names but they're much more normal than their first names! Think that's probably a bit backwards?

Sadie204 · 11/10/2013 19:48

All of our kids have 2 middle names each. Both our girls have 1 family name (actually one of my middle names each as I have 4) and the others were the names that were close to being their first names. Our DS has 2 family names, 1 from each side. Our DD3 will also have 2 but not sure if we will use any family names this time as there isn't any we really like lol!

My parents must have been really stuck for names as my sister also has 4 mn but our bro has 7!! Hmm
