2 weeks to go, Olivia or Scarlett. Which do you prefer and why????

I love them both, Olivia is obviously very popular but Scarlett seems to be getting there too?

TIA

I prefer Scarlett - Olivia is nice but a bit plain

Iwaswatchingthat · 10/10/2013 20:27

Scarlett Olivia

BlueStarsAtNight · 10/10/2013 22:45

What's your surname? I used to really like Olivia but going off it a bit as it's so 'done', and never used to like Scarlett much but it's growing on me, so they're about even at the mo! I dislike the nn's Livvy and Scar though.

I love Olivia. Classic and pretty.

Scarlett is ok, but depends where you are in the country. With some accents the 'T' sound at the end wouldn't be pronounced eg Scar-leh.

Mutteroo · 11/10/2013 01:09

I refused to consider Olivia as I was determined I would have a boy & I wanted Oliver. Scarlett was one of my favourite names for DD. DH vetoed it & I wish he hadn't! While I love DD's name, I can really see her as a Scarlett.

phoolani · 11/10/2013 01:14

Neither. Love them both, but both too common now.

SparkleSoiree · 11/10/2013 01:18

Scarlett - without a doubt. I am biased however being blessed with a Scarlett! Grin

She is one fiesty character and certainly knows her own mind!

Olivia

fromparistoberlin · 11/10/2013 10:45

olivia

scarlett sounds a bit...slutty?

fromparistoberlin · 11/10/2013 10:45

ooops, no offence!

SparkleSoiree · 11/10/2013 11:14

[hmm.]

Never heard a name described as slutty before.

SparkleSoiree · 11/10/2013 11:15
Hmm
Still18atheart · 11/10/2013 11:17

Olivia everyone I know who is called this fab

The only Scarlett i know is the one on Gone with The Wind and she annoyed me so much.

Monkeymonstermum · 11/10/2013 11:50

Personally think Olivia is classic sounding but that Scarlett is a bit 'on trend' and will date as so popular over the last few years (I'd put into the same category as Daisy/Ruby etc) - also can't get the Scarlett woman bit out of my head...but that's just me and if you love it go for it.

MrsBucketxx · 11/10/2013 11:54

Scarlett as I have one, so im biased. And again fiesty strong minded little girl.

Olivia sounds a bit bland. And would be shortend to olive.

MrsBucketxx · 11/10/2013 11:55

Scarlett slutty Hmm

Monkeymonstermum · 11/10/2013 11:55

oh but I love Olive as a short form! Went to school with one!

squoosh · 11/10/2013 12:12

Definitely Scarlett for me. Nothing wrong with Olivia but it's been done to absolute death. It may be classic but it had been virtually unused up until 5 years ago so will absolutely date.

No idea what a 'slutty' name might be, I think Scarlett is spirited and vivacious.

LadyRochford · 11/10/2013 12:28

Olivia has a nicer sound to me.
Scarlett is fine, but just sounds more harsh.

What about looking at the meanings to help you decide? Or historical figures who have had those names?

Writerwannabe83 · 11/10/2013 12:42

I prefer Olivia, it is on our list of potential girls names.

Scarlett just sounds very cold and formal to me. I think the name is beautiful but I just can't imagine it belonging to a warm, loving little toddler....

Olivia. Scarlett says stripper to me.

Iamgoodbutnotanangel · 11/10/2013 16:17

Ohhhhh so much to think about now, I definitely don't want an unusual name but don't want a boring one or slutty either ?? Olivia seems like the safer option! My youngest DS is called Lenny so I couldn't use either Livvy or Letty for a nickname either.
