What is your first thought when you hear this name? I'm not British so I need to know how this name comes across to native English speakers. What kind of family does Alexa/Alexandra come from? In which social category would you put Alexa/Alexandra? Alexandra is the name for the birth certificate,Alexa is the short form for everyday use.

Just to throw another name into the mix, DD is actually Alexandria.

I love Alexa or Alexia. I'd use it on its own though, I think its too long to be a shortened version IYSWIM. Alexa would probably get shortened to alex/allie/lexie/etc

Alexandra is gorgeous - a classic and classy name for a child. Alexa/Lexie etc is none of those things, they're awful and dare I say it, the dreaded 'chavvy' word.

Sandra is percieved as dreadfully dated over here - it's a 1950's-1970's housewive's name. Not good!

We are considering this name for a girl

DH says Alexa sounds like a stripper's name ConfusedBlush

He prefers Alexandra shortened to Alex

Alexandra is a lovely name. I know one who goes by Alexandra,Al,Allie,Alexa,Lex or Lexie depending on who she is with. Mid 20's.

Sandra is a bit dated I think.

Alexandra is a really beautiful name. One of my absolute favourites. Alexa is a massive no-no for me though, it's a tad too clunky for my liking. I hear Electra when I say it out loud. Alex is by far the nicest shortening of the name. I have a lovely friend who shortens to Alex. I also know a toddler who goes by Lex.

Sandra and Sandy....really not keen.

It's a name that runs through our family, always as Sasha though via Russian ancestors, never Alexandra, Alexa etc. not sure if it can be associated with a particular class; I know about an equal number of scumbags and poshies with the name.
