Quaint girls name

Hi we thought we had agreed on a girls name after a close family member, however as this family member constantly undermines me, is disrepectful to me & hubby, etc so we have decided to reconsider our first choice. To be honest I wasnt totally mad on it but as it is hubbys relative he would have liked to honour her but her behavious over the past couple of years has made him think twice.

Our dd is Molly & we both love quaint old fashioned names. Possible suggestions are Florence, Tilly, Esme, Alice, Daisy & Poppy etc. Please suggest some more along the same lines.

Plus maybe a little advice on how to u-turn with this family member who assumes the next girl will be named after her. We mentioned in the past we would like to honour her by doing so but her treatment of us in recent years has been terrible so now we are choosing a name we both love.

Firstly, don't tell anyone before you name her and then just say that she didn't look like a ........... and you had both fallen in love with the name........ Then change the subject, there is no need to justify further.

I love Tilly, Alice, Esme, Poppy, Abigail and Isobel. All very pretty names and all go with Molly

Could you maybe use the relatives name as a middle name, that way you are still technically honouring them, without having to actually using the name very often.

Do you mean really quaint?

Emmeline, Maud, Agnes.

All lovely imo and not too mainstream. Agree you could use the unpleasant relative's name as a middle (or even third) name.

I had an aunt Ethel who was known as Etty. Her sisters were Fanny (Fay), Muriel, Grace and Nelly (Nell). I think they're all very pretty names.

Does this relative have a middle name or is there a name that is associated with her name that you could use as a middle name?

Don't have two M's because post will be difficult when they are older.

Dora. I know a lot of people are put off by 'the Explorer', but I think it's just lovely - for a little girl and for a grown up. Also love Bessie as suggested by fanjodisfunction - straight out of the Faraway Tree :-)

I love Clara, DD has bagged it now Ds1 and DiL are expecting a girl, she told them they can't have it. Grin
I like Nancy too, it just sounds so cheerful.

Maud is awful and Agnes worse.
