Amber - love it
Ruby - pretty but just too popular
Heidi - really like it, strong name.
Ayla- no.
Mila - no
Penelope - love it, but do you like Penny?
Alba - ok
Emme - sounds incomplete

sebsmummy1 · 03/10/2013 12:30

I feel like amber and ruby were very popular quite a few years back, not sure if that's still the case but I would probably give them a swerve just incase.

Ella and Heidi I like.

Ayla and Mila feel like made up names to me. One of my prerequisites when picking a name for my son was that it was a recognisable name that they person at the end of the phone would have heard of, and stood a chance of spelling accurately. Those two I'm afraid, would have me firing off consonants right and left.

Penelope - nope, don't like the abbreviation and used to work for someone with that name who was a witch.

Alba - nope, see Ayla and Mila explanation

Emme - nope, probably for the same reason as above.

Littlecherublegs · 03/10/2013 12:31

Amber - ok
Ruby - quite like it
Heidi - don't like
Ayla - like Isla? If so, love it though prefer the spelling Isla
Mila - rhymes with Sheila? No
Penelope - don't like
Alba - an old make of rubbish stereos. No
Emme - Emma is lovely, Emme isn't a name as far as I know? Maybe a nickname for Emily / Emma.

If I had to choose one it would be Ayla (spelt Isla).

Notmyidea · 03/10/2013 12:31

I really like Heidi! Amber is fast becoming a name associated with challenging girls. (I work in education.)

Littlecherublegs · 03/10/2013 12:32

Oh missed Ella out - I quite like it!

sidneyseagull · 03/10/2013 16:23

Me too!

I think Ella is my favourite from your list. Followed by Amber and Ruby.

Good luck ttc Smile

mathanxiety · 03/10/2013 20:49

I only like Penelope and Mila. The rest get a thumbs down from me.

ChocChaffinch · 03/10/2013 20:55

Ayla - is the main character of a series of books 'Earth's Children' she's a sexy cavewoman Grin

Alba is weird

Emme is also weird

Penelope is OK

Heidi is OK but would be hard on the kid, at secondary

Ella Ruby & Amber all OK

Choccyhobnob · 04/10/2013 10:47

Hmmm interesting, my own concerns about the names are:

Ella - my favourite but just don't know if I could overlook the popularity
Ruby - above and worried it will date
Heidi - Don't think it goes with our surname
Penelope - too posh
Ayla - Like Isla but not so people will think it's weird
Emme, Mila and Alba - too weird
Amber - is it (whispers) chavvy?

I have a few other names too but they have all been debated on here before so I know how people feel about them!

I don't like any of them. They're all either already terribly dated, over popular or too twee. I'd go back to the drawing board if I were you.

tilbatilba · 04/10/2013 11:14

start again

ZingWantsCake · 04/10/2013 11:16

Ella is nice

minipie · 04/10/2013 11:25

My favourite is Emmy but spelled like that rather than Emme, and I'd have it as a nn for Emily or Emmeline. if it's a nn it's not weird at all.

Ella is sweet but there are a million of them...

Choccyhobnob · 04/10/2013 11:56

Luckily I have about 6 other favourites before I get to these! haha not forgetting the fact I am not yet pregnant and will probably end up having a boy (boys names don't interest me at all he'd probably just get a top 10 name and be done with it!)

TenthMuse · 04/10/2013 14:39

None of them are really my style tbh. Ella and Mila are OK (I know a lovely Mila) but otherwise I'm not a fan. Agree that Amber in particular is a bit dated, and increasingly associated with children at the more challenging end of the spectrum (although there will always be exceptions - I work in education too). Ruby is endemic where I live.

shoobidoo · 04/10/2013 15:19

I like Mila and Alba, although I've never met an Alba, but it sounds pretty and feminine (and will be easy to remember!).

Not keen on Amber, Ruby, Ella or Emme.

YDdraigGoch · 04/10/2013 15:24

Amber - like it
Ruby - Ruby Murray (so no)
Ella - like it
Heidi - makes me want to yodel
Ayla - no
Mila - no
Penelope - yes (and I like Penny)
Alba - yes, but what if she has dark hair?
Emme - will be forever saying "no, not EmmA, Emme" (and how do you pronounce it anyway?)

miffybun73 · 04/10/2013 18:48

I only know one Amber and if she's anything to go by then your fears are right. I'd put Ruby in the same category.

Would Emme be pronounced Em or Emmy? We have an Emily who often gets called Em or Emmy by me.

You could have Emmeline as her name on her birth certificate, known as Emme.

Penelope is a bit "posh", but lovely.

Quite like Heidi, it seems a very happy, cheerful sort of name.

Not keen on the others.

ladymia · 04/10/2013 23:23

All vanilla names, can't love or hate them

winterlights · 05/10/2013 01:17

Love Ella but know FAR too many so would avoid it.
Amber is my favourite from your list.
