My friend is pronouncing it 'Char-lot' and I think it's more 'Shar-lut.'

I say it exactly like scarlet. Great comparison!

shar-ltt. Nearly no vowel in the second syllable.

Would have been DC3's middle name if he hadn't waggled at us at 20w.

MorrisZapp · 03/10/2013 09:34

Sharlit. Which looks much less pretty!

Wishfulmakeupping · 03/10/2013 09:36

Shar- Lot

WineIsMyMainVice · 03/10/2013 12:47

Shar-lut
Always.
Definitely.
Much prefer!

Depends in which langauge Smile

Shar-lotte in German
Shar-lot in English
Shar-LOT in French

I also say it to rhyme with Scarlett. So Shar-lut. I would also think Shar-lot quite normal though, but not Char-lot or Char-lut.

Alisvolatpropiis · 03/10/2013 18:02

Shar-lut.

Much like Shar-main and Shan-tell

I'd never heard it pronounced the other way until a couple of years ago. Always looked at the person saying Char-lot askance.

Charlotte is my first name, it really bugs me when ppl call me char-lot ( I'm from Lincolnshire and when anyone with a lincs accent says char-lot it sounds too posh!) My mum and dad always call me char-lut and I prefer char-lut ! :) xxx

firesidechat · 07/10/2013 17:15

Shar-lut, equal emphasis on both syllables.

Yes Shar-lut.

I should know, so trust me on this.

usualsuspect · 07/10/2013 17:17

Shar-lut
