A friend has recently name her gorgeous newborn DD Ava-Beau, all as one name like Ellie-May. Now she is adamant it is pronounced Ava 'Bew' like the start of ' beautiful'

Now I am sure Beau is pronounced bow

For the sake of my sanity please tell me who is correct?
It wouldn't be so bad if it was just her (and I would never get into an argument with her about it, as I know how sensitive she will be right now) but a mutual friend of mine text me the name when she was born and then when I saw her I said "oh so she's called her Ava Bow?" And was told don't be daft that's a stupid name, it's definitely Ava Bow Hmm and to stop taking the piss out of our friends DD's name Confused. I was going to argue that that is how most people will read it but wanted to be sure first incase I'm wrong.

Thanks Smile

Interesting development!

The thing is - there's nothing much wrong with Ava-Beau pronounced Ay-va Bo. Preferably without the hyphen IMO. However, I can't wait to hear the new name!

squoosh · 02/10/2013 13:25

Her husband sounds like a sensible man!

picnicbasketcase · 02/10/2013 14:37

Fingers crossed that the husband has talked her into something a bit nicer

bundaberg · 02/10/2013 14:42

Harper-Bella sounds like a form of food poisoning

I actually like both names separately. But together they just don't really go

EhricLovesTeamQhuay · 02/10/2013 15:57

Beau isn't for a girl though! So Ava-beau is stupid even pronounced correctly. Trinity-Portia and Harper-Bella are also shit, but not as bad as arver-bew.

SoupDragon · 02/10/2013 17:15

Beau isn't for a girl though!

There are plenty of boys names used for girls though and Beau is one that can easily make the transition to fens le. Unlike something like Gary.

PirateJelly · 02/10/2013 17:24

Well the new name has been revealed.

Drum roll please........

Olivia-Grace.

I actually said aloud thank fuck for that upon reading the email Grin Still wish she'd get rid of the bloody, stupid - though.

I think here DP must have made her see sense in the end. Now bare in mind I've only seen this name written down and not heard her actually say it out loud Grin but fingers crossed there's no stupid ways she can ruin it by pronouncing it wrong!

Thanks for all your input Smile

oh i like that :)

Fifi2406 · 02/10/2013 17:32

I would say bow but I would also say Beau was a boys name!

EhricLovesTeamQhuay · 02/10/2013 17:33

Well I hate the hyphen but that's just me. Both names are nice and normal and hopefully the Grace will get dropped soonish.

SoupDragon · 02/10/2013 17:33

I bet there are :o Much nicer name.

squoosh · 02/10/2013 17:37

Phew and Hurrah for Olivia-Grace. That baby just dodged a bullet!

(presuming she hasn't decided to pronounce Grace as Grakky)

SoupDragon · 02/10/2013 17:40

And, perhaps, Oh LIVE ya

NadiaWadia · 02/10/2013 17:45

Well that's nice. Pity about the hyphen, though. Does that mean she will be referred to as Olivia-Grace all the time (a bit of a mouthful), instead of just Olivia?

I always wonder about hyphens in names, does it cause problems when filling in forms (especially online) etc? I would have thought it might.

SoupDragon · 02/10/2013 17:59

Not usually. Very rarely is there a form that doesn't let me put my hyphen in.

picnicbasketcase · 02/10/2013 18:27

I don't like hyphens myself, but Olivia and Grace are both lovely names Smile

PirateJelly · 02/10/2013 20:05

Yes the idea is she will be called Olivia-Grace at all times, although knowing my friend and if what she calls her DS is anything to go by she'll probably end up calling her DD Polly or something which has no baring on her actual name Hmm

I can't help but think it's alot of fuss and attention seeking on her part tbh. She's duly updated her facebook though so hopefully this new name is now set in stone. She made me laugh on one of her comments though she said half the reason she changed it was because her 4 year old DS just couldn't get his head around the name Av-er Bew and kept calling his little sister 'baby Avenue' Grin

She already talking of planning another baby Confused I think I might have to emigrate before that ones born Wink

I would of prounouned it bow. My friend has a DS named Beau. Masculine name.

Milkjug · 03/10/2013 10:17

I think a certain kind of mother thinks her baby girl isn't enough of a girl unless her name has a hyphen, as if it makes everything frillier. It's not to my taste, I must say. I think it's the naming equivalent of sticking those big bows on your bald baby girl's head, in case someone fails to grasp her sex...

SoupDragon · 03/10/2013 11:28

Or the parents just like the name hyphenated. Hmm

Handbagsonnhold · 03/10/2013 11:38

Oh Pirate you have given us all a giggle.....horrified to see she had Trinity on her list though as I fancied that 'Trinny' of course.....but it's put me off. I always have a little titter to myself when I hear the hyphenated Christian names being called at the park....so odd to myself who shortens everything! Glad your cringing has come to an end and baby Ferris Beaulea has a half decent name.....well if they only use either half.....fingers crossed! X

curlew · 03/10/2013 11:42

It's roughly Bow.

But it's not a name.

Handbagsonnhold · 03/10/2013 12:31

All in true Walton Mountain stylie 'g nite Jon-boy...... g'nite jim-bob......g'nite Ava Bew ......love it Wink
