What do you think of the name Ruby?

Hello all. I have a DS but was convinced I was going to have a DD! I picked the name Ruby and if I have a DD next time round I will definitely call her Ruby.

No. Sorry. I can't help thinking of Ruby Murray every time I hear it.
Plus, it sounds like a scullery maid in a Victorian house.

I like it, it is quite popular now though if that matters to you.

It's beautiful - I love it. It was my gran's name and I always thought I'd use it but it doesn't really go with our surname.

2 in dds class,2 in an activity we go to.
It was on my list but dp not a fan of it,and purely because of the popularity here I'm glad we didn't choose it.
I think it also may 'date' in the same way that Ava,Alfie,Archie etc will do.

Possibly because I have an acquaintance who calls her Ruby 'rubes' which makes me think of 'pubes' but that is clearly ridiculous!

I love it, but I have a beautiful 9 year old dd caled Ruby, and always wanted to use the name as I love the Rolling Stones song Ruby Tuesday. When we picked it, it was not popular at all, but has increased in popularity after the Kaiser Chiefs song and a few celebs using it, but having said that, I have all three kids in school and none of them have a Ruby in their class or in their year! So not that popular, and still lovely, and I would always say if you love it, go for it, it does not matter what other people think!

Very widely used already. You may like it but will it really identify your dd (or will she have to add her surname initial or other adjective to her name)? Wasn't it THE most popular girls' name a couple of years ago?

It is a nice name, it has a lovely round sound.

But for me its popularity would put me right off, I think it will date really quickly.

Love the name Ruby.....it is fairly popular, but not so much it would stop be from choosing it.

Ruby is a nice name, obvious how to pronounce and spell. Sounds awful with some surnames though.

What about Scarlett ?
