Katherine or Catherine?

I prefer Katherine as you can have Katie/Kate but several friends prefer Catherine as that is the correct spelling. Confused

Another Kathryn vote here

FrameyMcFrame · 23/09/2013 22:37

Kate Middleton is Catherine with a C too!

MrsMongoose · 24/09/2013 00:23

Kate Middleton is Catherine with a C. You can still use the nickname Kate.

Vintageclock · 24/09/2013 16:27

Katherine.

badtime · 24/09/2013 19:53

I prefer the K.

Do people genuinely say that either is the 'correct' spelling?

TheSydenhamSet · 24/09/2013 19:56

My dd is Katharine with a K and A like Hepburn :-) we call her Katy

Katherine

SorrelForbes · 24/09/2013 20:00

Another vote for Katharine and no bias here either Grin

AndWhenYouGetThere · 24/09/2013 20:01

I prefer the K - then you get Kitty and Kate more naturally.

SuffolkLatch · 24/09/2013 20:02

KathArine - think it looks so much nicer.

JacqueslePeacock · 24/09/2013 20:03

With a K. Especially if you already have a DD with a C!

SuffolkLatch · 24/09/2013 20:03

I LOVE Kate and Kitty, not so keen on Katie.

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 24/09/2013 20:05

k is original and best! Grin

StrawberryMojito · 24/09/2013 20:07

Katherine.

Sarahplane · 24/09/2013 20:07

My sister's Katharine which I think is the best spelling but she was nearly ten before she learned to speak her full name properly because she's always been known as Kate and everyone always spells it wrong. I think with any of the spellings people will always have to ask or get it wrong anyway though because there are so many different ways of spelling it.

CPtart · 24/09/2013 20:23

Catherine. It's softer somehow and classier.

LaydeeC · 24/09/2013 21:38

Catherine - obviously!

BettyBi0 · 25/09/2013 09:12

Nooo.. Go for Katherine with a K. To me it sounds a lot more classic and elegant. It's a name we are thinking of too (MIL and my grannie are both Katherines) but I'm not sure as really don't like Kathy, kath, Katie etc.

GrandstandingBlueTit · 25/09/2013 09:17

No competition. Catherine.

MayimBialik · 25/09/2013 09:28

Katharine - by far the best version!

IceCreamForCrow · 25/09/2013 09:31

Slightly prefer Katharine (with 'a' not 'e')

Don't like C/Kathy or C/Kath so much as it sounds a bit old.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 25/09/2013 09:33

I much prefer Catherine. However I ruled it out in any form for DD because I hate Cat/Kat as a NN.

bridgetsmum · 25/09/2013 09:36

Definitely Catherine for me, but I'm a bit bias cos that's my youngest's name.
You can still shorten it to Kate/Katie. My dd's friends use her full name or Cat and I call her KitCat Smile

TwoStepsBeyond · 25/09/2013 09:49

Catherine, its the one everyone will automatically think of (especially post KM) and I think it looks prettier with a C, the K looks hard. NN can still be Kate or Katy (or Cate/Caty if she wants to be a bit different) or Cat.
