What do you think of Yva as a girl's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

I have never heard it before - it sounds made up and doesn't look quite right in terms of spelling.

I know an Ivo (boy) and an Iva.

Where did you get it from OP?

Nagoo · 23/09/2013 16:28

A common name pointlessly mis-spelled, if you are British.

Nagoo · 23/09/2013 16:28

misspelled, says my spellchecker. Oh the irony.

Nagoo · 23/09/2013 16:29

Hang on, you listed it OP. Hmm

SirChenjin · 23/09/2013 16:29

As in Eva?

nicename · 23/09/2013 16:32

I don't like the spelling. It looks ugly, especially in capitals YVA. Is it a 'traditional' spelling somewhere?

nicename · 23/09/2013 16:33

Nagoo - that is funny. I'm off to list 'Bumface' in the namefinder, then start a new thread!

bruffin · 23/09/2013 16:48

Isnt this one of those computered generated posts that happen if you search a name on the MN babyfinder.

nicename · 23/09/2013 16:56

There's only one way to find out...

bruffin · 23/09/2013 17:28

There is a button on the right side of the baby name finder screen which says
"post my shortlist on talk"

LaurieFairyCake · 23/09/2013 17:30

Not a real name

IIINGIII · 23/09/2013 17:31

My sister suggested Yva as the baby's paternal Grandmother is Yvonne...

Fortunately not British!

TallulahBetty · 23/09/2013 18:42

To me, the spelling looks ugly.

LynetteScavo · 23/09/2013 18:48

I'd think it was a European (not British) spelling.

My DC go to school with lots of children whose parents aren't British and so I'm used to lots of Oskars/ Oliwias, so it wouldn't bother me.

LynetteScavo · 23/09/2013 18:50

Mil is Yvonne.

DH suggested Yve for DD's name. I kid you not. Hmm I think I shouted at him for being so stupid.

Divinidylle · 23/09/2013 21:41

This is completely off topc but LynetteScavo you always make me giggle :)

Divinidylle · 23/09/2013 21:42

Topic, even :)
And would go for Eva rather than Yva, she would constantly need to correct it!

ShadowSummer · 23/09/2013 22:29

I'm not sure whether I should be pronouncing Yva as "E-va" or "I-va"

manicinsomniac · 23/09/2013 23:24

It could be real, I know an Ysabel and an Yvie so it seems that Y could be pronounced E/I somewhere - maybe Spanish or French??

Divinidylle · 24/09/2013 12:11

I am french - Y is pronounced E/I sometimes - like name Yves for a boy (probably why I am not keen on Yva!)

Littleen · 27/09/2013 18:37

I think it's pretty :)

CPtart · 27/09/2013 18:53

It sounds like you are trying to make different a pretty but extremely over-used name.
