Baby boy name - Humphrey or Odhran

Help,

We cannot decide on baby boy name for DS who is now 7 days old! We are at polar opposites with me really liking Odhran and husband wanting Humphrey and thinking of a meet in the middle name of Aneurin.

Thoughts?

Odhran. I love that name. I wanted it for DS but DH wasn't keen.

ZolaBuddleia · 11/09/2013 20:40

Not keen on Humphrey, very wet and chinless IMO. Like the others though. Know an Odhran, he's very nice if that helps!

DifferentNow · 11/09/2013 20:41

Humphrey is scrumptious. Lots of people (including me) won't know how to pronounce Odhran and he will spend his life correcting misspellings and mispronunciations.

CatAmongThePigeons · 11/09/2013 20:43

I know a gorgeous Odhran! It's a lovely name, much nicer than Humphrey IMO.

Leeds2 · 11/09/2013 20:53

I don't like Humphrey at all.

I have never heard of Odhran, and don't know how to pronounce it. When I saw it written down, I read it as Odd-run.

Whatwhatwhat · 11/09/2013 20:54

I always think of Bodhran when I hear the name Odhran. That's what an Odhran in college became known as. Not a great nn!

Shellywelly1973 · 12/09/2013 13:38

Odhran, great name! !

hellokitty123 · 12/09/2013 14:31

Humphrey - great underused classic!

Not sure how to pronounce Odhran, am guessing Odran?

Humphrey Aneurin would be lovely imo.

ZolaBuddleia · 12/09/2013 15:07

The one I know pronounces it Oran. Or - ann.

Mollydoggerson · 12/09/2013 15:16

Humphrey is lovely, big teddy bear.

Odhran - I am not so keen, nickname can be Odie. It's may be slightly awkward I think.

squoosh · 12/09/2013 15:32

Odhran.

If only to save him from the horror that is Humphrey.

Aneurin reminds me of anuerysm,

Kikibee · 12/09/2013 15:34

Ha ha ha ha, great joke Grin

squoosh · 12/09/2013 15:36

But if you don't live in Ireland I think calling him Odhran will be a bit of pain in the bum. People won't have a clue how to pronounce it.

Still better than Humphrey though.

holycowwhatnow · 12/09/2013 15:40

And if you DO live in Ireland, having him called Humphrey will ensure he gets beaten up on the way home from school. Odhran is lovely.

Sleepthief · 12/09/2013 16:35

Aneurin is by far my favourite of the three. To me Humphrey sounds like a joke name and IMO Odhran is just ugly (especially when there are some many beautiful Irish names to choose from. Aneurin is interesting and has gravitas (although iPhone keeps changing it to aneurism, so fair point Grin)

Sleepthief · 12/09/2013 16:36

By the way, I'm Irish so that's maybe why Humphrey is a joke name to me...

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 12/09/2013 18:10

Ooh I love Aneurin (nn Nye). Choose that!

forgetmenots · 12/09/2013 18:32

Odhran, every time. Really dislike Humphrey.

exoticfruits · 12/09/2013 18:36

Don't like any of them.

hellokitty123 · 12/09/2013 20:40

Don't think people think 'joke name' when they hear Humphrey Bogart.

nextyearitsbigschool · 12/09/2013 20:52

I'm afraid I would think "poor child" if I heard of a Humphrey.

thistlelicker · 12/09/2013 20:55

None of the above sorry

SirChenjin · 12/09/2013 20:57

Don't like any of them, sorry.

LynetteScavo · 12/09/2013 21:00

Humphrey

I can't believe you can't clearly see this is a brilliant name. I think you must be sleep deprived.

Flowers Congratulations on your baby!

TheBuskersDog · 12/09/2013 21:01

Showing my age but 'watch out there's a Humphrey about' and Humphrey cushion.
