Arthurian boys and girls names

Hello! So basically I'm a heavily pregnant woman in need of some name inspiration/guidance before I go completely bonkers with it!
I've been inlove with the legends of King Arthur since childhood and would like your opinions regarding 'acceptable' names. My husband is also a huge Arthurian fan, so he says he is happy to roll with such a name. (I am one lucky lady, I realise!) We have vetoed some of the more popular ones (such as Arthur and Guinevere) because they just didn't fit right and my best friend basically has a form of the latter. Others are lovely but would just be mocked - Lancelot, for example.
I personally love Gawain and Emrys for boys. I also love Merlin but think I'd be more inclined to call my dog that. Girls names have been harder. I like Lorie and Morgana but they don't seem like 'the one'.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Well, I've personally known a Gawain and a Galahad (younger brother was called Dumnac, or Dummy, but in a nice way).

Have you tried leafing through the Mabinogion - lots (and lots and lots) of names, although some of the associated stories may put you off. My favourite of the girls' names would have been:

Niniane
Morgan/Morgaine/Morgana
Morgause
Linnet (already mentioned)
Brangwen
Viviane/Vivien

I read a book as a child in which Arthur and Guinevere had a daughter called Ursula. I think that's a lovely name.

Theas18 · 03/09/2013 12:38

do let us know what you decide :)

We used Morgan for dd2 when we wanted an Arthurian name.

georgettemagritte · 05/09/2013 22:49

Love Gawain and Linnet. Guinevere also possible, nn Ginny or Jenny? Or the Welsh version, Gwenfair.
