So...can someone check out my list?

We're having a boy. He will be ds3.

These are our names:
Luca Theodore Griffin
Luca Theodore Taylor
Luca Fox Theodore
Luca Finnian James
Luca Theodore Indigo
Luca Fox Mersey
Luca Theodore Mersey
Luca Fox Isaiah

Opinions..and any unusual middle name suggestions? Mersey is due to it being a special place to us. And so is Finnian. Is Mersey too girly? We live nearby but are moving down south so by the time he needs to even say his middle name, or even write his own name out, we will be out of the area.

I like Griffin, Fox and Indigo (although prefer Inigo).
I'm not usually keen on place names as names, and think Mersey sounds too like mercy.

I like:
Luca Fox Griffin
Luca Griffin Indigo

I actually read the first two names on your list as first name, middle name and surname which is confusing. If you add a surname it may sound like a first name, mn and double barrel surname?

Surnames and place names aren't my thing at all so if I had to choose I'd use Luca Theodore (which btw I don't think is unusual so unsure if it really fits your criteria?).

Then again whoever lists out anything other than their first name for anything.

I like Mersey but then I live in Merseyside so am maybe a touch biased

I have one child with a middle name, and one without.

I can honestly say that nobody gives a shit, and they are totally irrelevant.

I only like Luca Finnian James out of those... I dislike Griffin and Taylor as they sound too surname-y. I think Indigo, Fox and Mersey just sound odd and a bit too out there... If I were a male I wouldn't thank you for those I just mentioned...they sound very hippy, earth mother...IYSWIM. No offence, just trying be honest.
I also think Luca Finnian James trips off the tongue nicely and if your son dislikes Luca when he gets older then he has the choice of two other great names!
Oh, dislike Theodore although I do like Ted or Teddy.

As I said, I really like Luca Finnian James best but as you asked for uncommon name suggestions, I thought I'd suggest Finbar (esp if your boy is born blond as it means fair-haired one in Irish..

I like them all except Indigo.
The one I like the most is Luca Finnian James, and I see I am not the only one.

I wouldn't use Griffin, Taylor or Fox unless they are surnames in your family tree. I think surnames used as names should have some family history significance, otherwise they are just too random, a collection of sounds and syllables.

I also like Fintan and Finbar.

Luca Finnian has a nice sound, but I'd go with Mersey - as pp said, middle names are not generally relevant for every day life, they're most useful to honour a person (or a place!) that is important, or to give the child a backup option if you have a far out first name.

To me these all otherwise sound like a mashup of currently trendy names, and there's no clear reason why you'd give him 3 of them, let alone 2.

Thanks Smile I have read all replies through (obviously!) . We are giving him 3 because it's a family tradition thing Hmm I live five hours by plane form my parents, my DC don't speak our language that well (altough we do try!) and they don't have good Internet connection so I kind of want them to feel like we do care about them, and that our family is important ifyswim? I know it might make people a bit Confused but it's the type of thing which is important to them. Fox is a translation of DH's brother's name, he died a few years ago and he was 16.

We picked two names which we thought went okay and which we liked- our options are quite limited because we wanted a first name which worked in English, Danish and Finnish (our languages) - a thing for our families, and to our personal tastes. Luca works in that way- Luka though. Theodore is Teodor/Theodor, so we wanted an Anglicised version.

I know nobody cares less, but it's easier to worry about names than to worry about the birth/premature stuff/money issues and so on, which we are all worrying about (it's high risk) and it takes my mind of stuff. Probably, we'll see him and decide on a random name, but it makes me feel more in control!

Anyway, I personally would like two names but I think it would make my parents happier if we went for this. No one really cares about middle names, but if I'm going to have them, might as well make them okay names. We think we're going for Luca Theodore Mersey as it's special for us.

Mersey made me think of Mersey Trout- a turd.

I don't like Mersey at all, sorry. As for the others, I'm not keen on surnames as first names, so for me that would rule out Taylor, Griffin and Fox. However I would rule Fox back in again for the very important personal reason of DH's brother. Oh and I don't like Indigo (because of the New Age indigo child theory thing - are you aware of that?).

Finnian, James and Theodore would be my favourites from your list. I think Luca Theodore Fox rolls off the tongue better than the other way round. Finnian Fox or Fox Finnian don't go well together.

Fox is a lovely way to remember your brother (sorry for your loss).

I agree with pp about 'Look a fox' though - I would use Fox as the third name. However I would not use it after Luca Isaiah (too like 'Look, I see a fox')

Also having read through the thread I think Luca Finnian Fox is great.

I love middle names with meaning - they are very rarely used so who cares if they are a bit unusual or hard to spell!
