Wavering about Conrad

MrsHoratioNelson · 25/08/2013 11:31

Baby due in 6 weeks. We were all set with Conrad, then I went off it a bit... then I came back round to it... and now I'm wavering again. It's got to the point where I'm starting to hope that we have a girl just so I can avoid the issue.

Pffft.

I'm worried I will regret choosing Conrad in a year or two.

He'd be a Conrad George, I think. Our "backup" names are Frederick and Rufus (DH less keen). Thoughts?

I have a Conrad he is 11.. We know 1 other Conrad he is coming up 50 says he has never met any other Conrad's but ours.

It is 100% a marmite name it was the ONLY name (of our 4) where we got either
oh
or
I LOVE that name..
Much like you have on this thread Smile

DS likes having a name not everyone else has and it has that unique ability to be a name everyone knows but few people know " one of"

I did however like you go on and off when pregnant with him worried it was " to strong" a name and that we would set him up for being teased,

In retrospect He just IS Conrad and I love it I am thrilled we went with it (as is DH ) I don't regret calling him Conrad Its a great name and He is a great boy.

The other Conrad we know (dad up at their school) owns his own company in a field I cant remember right now(I have been told it is a bit obscure) bt has done well for himself.

Conrad George sounds great imo Ours has Paul for mn after a late uncle.

Frikadellen · 26/08/2013 15:00

Btw the only " nickname" ours get is his surname and everyone I know w that surname gets that (Its Scotish and starts with FL)

MrsHoratioNelson · 26/08/2013 15:06

Thanks all - I think it really is just the late pg hormones doing funny things! Nice to hear from those of you with Conrads or who know Conrads.

Happy for him to be a Con or a Rad (dude Wink) - I have no objection to nicknames per se, just not keen on the diminutives of Frederick.

Conrad and Rufus are lively, Frederick too commonplace, and too posh.

invicta · 26/08/2013 22:21

Conrad is a great name - love it

3boysgirlontheway · 28/08/2013 07:12

Conrad is fantastic, I have never met one. The only one I know of is the guy on Revenge.

AntoinetteCosway · 28/08/2013 07:37

I taught a Conrad a few years ago-he's now early 20s. It suited him. He was v v clever and witty so in my mind it's a clever, witty kind of name!

jemimastar · 28/08/2013 09:29

Love Conrad!! On our list too. Different/quirky but strong and quite cool too - really agree with Anjou's other names its along same lines of too, several of those are also in our shortlist! Smile

fanjodisfunction · 28/08/2013 10:11

Great name. I was on a plane a while ago with a toddler called Conrad, nobody rasied an eye brow, he was was full of blonde curls too.

BlueChampagne · 28/08/2013 16:40

I have a Conrad - his elder brother (6) calls him Coo-Coo.

Laquila · 29/08/2013 01:41

Conrad is lovely - I imagine a young Conrad to have blonde curls, and an elder one to be quite suave and sophisticated, yet a little bit rugged Grin

kiwik · 29/08/2013 06:34

I like Conrad, but love Rufus.

Conrad to me is similar to Oscar, Xavier and Lucas.
