Eloise or Eloise? (or other suggestions)

We like the name, but can't decide on the spelling :)

Potential middle names are Violet or Grace.

Other suggestions welcome, though nothing beginning with 'J'

Thumb, how do you say Louise? Sorry I think I'm being thick today!

Ahh! I see now!! My Scottish accent strikes again! Oh and oo!! :o

Surely Elouise would be pronounced El-oo-weez. I much prefer Ell-o-weez.

Also I prefer the Faith and Hope suggestions for a middle name.

Heloise is my DHs favourite girls name after I had vetoed Kimberly

What about Elodie? Also lovely & slightly more unusual at the moment

Have you thought about Louise?

Oooh, I love Eloise. Definitely top girls name for DC2, we'd have the middle name as Catherine as it's my mum & sister's middle name.
My middle name is Louise, that wouldn't go down well!

Thumbwitch has it spot on.

No u, just Eloise. Definitely with Violet as a middle name.

I think, out of the two, Grace is much nicer with Eloise (it has to be that spelling). But I do like Faith Hope etc instead. Definitely not Violet - it doesn't run on right.

Well, thank God for that. I kept looking from Eloise to Eloise trying to spot the difference and wondered if I was developing late-onset dyslexia!

I had never seen or heard of Elouise before. Just seems wrong.

I think Eloise Violet flows beautifully. Perhaps it's an accent thing, because I'm baffled by comments that it sounds awkward. I have a Scottish accent, and Eloise Violet sounds lovely.

Eloise Grace doesn't sound quite so good to me because of the repeated "s" sound at the end of each name.

Thanks there are some really good points, the important ones being you all agree with my spelling Wink

I'm leaning more towards Violet tbh. I'm due next Monday, so not long now I suspect :)

Eloise

Report
JamieandtheMagicTorch · 27/08/2013 14:52

I prefer Violet

Eloise will inevitably be shortened to Ellie, which is rather popular

madmayday · 27/08/2013 15:14

I'm an Eloise Anne, which depending on your surname, flows pretty well! Grin

I prefer Violet to Grace and Eloise to be honest.

However I'll also thrown Elise into the mix because I think that is pretty.

Out the names you have said I think Eloise Grace sounds better than Eloise Violet even if I don't prefer it.

I do think a one syllable mn works best (unless you have a one syllable surname) but so many are overused at the moment. How about

Eloise Fleur
Eloise Blythe
Eloise Ruth
Eloise Anne (I bet Ann or Anne will be the next Rose/May of middle names though)
Eloise Faye
Eloise Beth

HoneyDragon · 28/08/2013 16:40

Eloise does NOT get shortened to Ellie, as the average Eloise comes with a highly efficient glare of death.

I like Eloise Violet too. Sounds great!
