Would you like to be called your favourite girls name?

I have 2 DS and found out the gender at 20 weeks for both so I never made a 'serious' list of potential names for a DD. However, I've read quite a few 'girls names' threads recently & it's got me thinking about what I would call a baby girl. Then I wondered if I would like to be called the names I picked ... and quite a few of them I wouldn't. I was surprised! I think perhaps that the names I would like for a girl (Freya, Sylvie & Tabitha are my top 3 - gutted they're so popular, as I've loved all 3 since I was a little girl!) are too feminine for my character. I guess that I love the thought of how Freya, Sylvie & Tabitha would be and - while I aspire to be like that - I'm just not. Therefore those names wouldn't suit me.

Would you like to be called the names that you've given your DD's and/or that are on your wish list? I'm interested to know if its just me that thinks this way! Grin

Yes I would like the name I gave my daughter - Claudia. I don't think I could give her a name I wouldn't like myself. I guess it depends on your definition of popular but with the exception of Freya, which is top 20, your girls names aren't that common. Tabitha is 181st with 283 named Tabitha in 2012, and Sylvie is even less popular at 487th with only 90 little girls named that. Considering there are typically 700,000+ births a year in the UK that means there is a very tiny, tiny percentage of girls called Sylvie. Based on those statistics I don't think I would be put off.

Thanks for your reply, Mumbai.

It was more that I was thinking that - although I LOVE those names and would definitely use them for a DD - I wouldn't choose them for myself if say I HAD to change my name. Not because I don't fancy them, just because I'm an adult, my personality is formed and is such that I don't think I could carry these names off/do them justice. Does that make sense? Probably not! It was a thought that struck me at 3 in the morning when I couldn't get back to sleep! Maybe it's just me that thinks this (or finds it interesting!!!). Grin

No, I know what you mean Anjou... :) The name I loved and loved for years, Beatrix I just couldn't imagine me as a 32 year old woman introducing myself as a Beatrix, not when I've spent so long introducing myself as a Kirsty....It's so weird.

However the name I like at the moment, Polly, I could totally imagine being an awesome Polly. :)

I'd love my dd's name. I hope she does too when she's older. I never really liked my name, but it's growing on me a bit more now I'm older.

My mother calls me my daughter's name all the time so I have some affinity with it actually! Her name is Isabella (a mumsnet no no!) but there's no others in my area. I probably could imagine being called that because rather than seeing it as frilly name I see it as a strong name as it belongs to my little daughter with a strong personality! My name I see as strong, Davina, again others may not agree but our names I think could be interchangeable as our personalities are similar! I'm happy as I am though, I am a Davina :-)

I like my own name, so I wouldn't want to change it. I think I could suit a couple of my favourites though, if I didn't have the name I do.

I adore my dds name and would love to have been called it. I don't really like my own name (would never admit that to my mum!) I have always secretly wished I'd been called my middle name which is Elizabeth.

I really like your list of names especially Sylvie and don't think any of them is too popular. I know one little Tabitha and that's all!
