Middle name for Claudia?

CruCru · 20/08/2013 09:49

I am fairly fixed on Claudia for our DD who is due at the end of next month. I am trying to think of middle names - so far I've come up with:

Claudia Minerva (DH will hate this)
Claudia Eve or Eva
Claudia Elizabeth

Our surname is one syllable and begins with R. What else should I consider?

I was going to say Elizabeth before I opened the thread.

sparklingstars · 20/08/2013 12:20

Claudia Jane
Claudia Marie
Claudia Louise

Spindelina · 20/08/2013 13:04

To me, 3-2-1 flows really well, with the stress on the first syllable of each name.
CAR not a problem - at least you know it's unlikely to mean something rude in 10 years' time.
Love both Claudia Astrid and Claudia Joy.
Isolde has the --a --a sound again.
Are you deliberately going Germanic? Claw-dia or Clow-dia?
Something ending in -et(te)? Lynette, Suzette, Juliet...

Smugfearnleyshittingstool · 20/08/2013 13:22

We have Claudia Josephine

Purplehonesty · 20/08/2013 13:39

As soon as I saw your title I went oog claudia Alice.
But someone got there first!

Purplehonesty · 20/08/2013 13:39

Ooh not oog...

CruCru · 20/08/2013 14:27

I think we'll call her Claw-dia, it comes a bit more naturally.

Claudia Evangeline sprang to mind.

Caip · 20/08/2013 22:07

Claudia Polly

BlueStarsAtNight · 20/08/2013 23:16

With a 1 syllable surname I'd go with a 2 syllable middle name. But not starting with a vowel, it always sounds awkward to have 2 vowels running together.

How about:

Claudia Bridget
Claudia Margot
Claudia Megan
Claudia Lucy
Claudia Jessie

Sunnysummer · 21/08/2013 08:16

I would also have said a one syllable middle name, but actually with a short surname I think that longer is better.

Claudia Elizabeth, of your suggestions
Claudia Josephine as suggested upthread

Or if you wanted to keep the Roman connection
Claudia Juno
Claudia Luna
Claudia Felicity
Or the vestal connection with Claudia Virginia Wink

ExasperatedSigh · 21/08/2013 08:26

Ours is Claudia Robyn :) Can't remember any of my other middle name suggestions that DH vetoed apart from Claudia Faith. Personally I err on the side of one or two syllable middle names and none starting in A, since the As run into each other iyswim.

AnonYonimousBird · 21/08/2013 08:29

Middle name can't start with a vowel, doesn't roll from first to second name.

Though, how often do we actually say the full name out loud?!

PetWoman · 21/08/2013 08:36

Claudia Mary?
Claudia Ellen?

mrsyattering · 21/08/2013 08:36

I don't think it matters about the vowels, my dd first and middle end and start with a vowel, sound real nice together imo.

She does only get her full name when she is naughty though Wink

BaldricksTurnip · 21/08/2013 08:42

Persephone? Imogen? Evelyn?

BaldricksTurnip · 21/08/2013 08:43

And my personal favourite
Hermione Smile

CruCru · 21/08/2013 13:58

Thanks all for your awesome suggestions. I think I have to keep the middle name simple as DH isn't too keen on "poncy" names (have had to work quite hard to get him comfortable with Claudia). I also love Claudia Beatrice but I don't think it's going to fly.

Is Claudia Augusta silly?

OP posts:
BlueStarsAtNight · 24/08/2013 00:32

Yes, I'm afraid Claudia Augusta does sound a bit silly. The a's run together which makes it sound awkward, and I don't like that they end the same way. Plus it makes me think of Roman Emperors (Claudius/Augustus)

Onyabike · 24/08/2013 00:39

Claudia Elizabeth.

CruCru · 24/08/2013 08:36

Cool, so the current list is:

Claudia Elizabeth
Claudia Anne
Claudia Alice

I think any of these would fly with DH (and the second two were his suggestions for first names).

MortifiedAdams · 24/08/2013 08:40

Claudia Tess
Claudia Kate
Claudia Lynn
Claudia Jude

Colyngbourne · 24/08/2013 13:45

Claudia Jane

FiddleDeeDees · 24/08/2013 14:15

Another vote for Claudia Elizabeth... that's my daughter's name! Elizabeth was my gran's name, hence the choice. But I also think it just metres nicely and sounds rather elegant...
