So I have an awkward DH. and I have posted previously asking for help with boys names. DH and I have only been able to come up with Ewan that we both vaguely like. DH loves it because it means John in Welsh and he wanted to remember his grandfather somehow with the name.

I'm ok with it. But automatically think of Ewan Mcgreggor. Do you?
Is it difficult to say? What do you think of when you say the name? Strong handsome chap or feminine? Will it go with Zack?

It's lovely, goes really well with Zack too. Yes my first thought is Ewan Mcgreggor but that isn't a bad thing Smile. I think that Ewan is a classic, strong, masculine, underused, underrated beauty of a name. Chimes in beautifully with Zack too.

"Zack! Ewan! Yer teas ready!" See? Smile

WhispersOfWickedness · 20/08/2013 09:37

I love it and Ewan is my favourite spelling too Smile It goes very well with Zack too Smile

WhispersOfWickedness · 20/08/2013 09:38

Sorry, meant to say, Ewan McGregor is not a bad association Wink

ImATotJeSuisUneTot · 20/08/2013 09:41

I really like it. But it does makes me think of a sheep. That's prob just me though. Grin

dreamingofsun · 20/08/2013 09:41

lovely, but i thought the welsh form was ieuan, pronounced yiean? ewan i always thought was the scottish version.

LillyofWinchester · 20/08/2013 09:42

I didn't think of ewan mcgregor at all, it's a lovely name

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 20/08/2013 09:44

I would spell it Euan but I'm
Scottish. Ewan does remind me of the Dream Sheep but its a good association as DS loves his!

dreamingofsun · 20/08/2013 09:50

if this name had been welsh i would have chosen it.....so i've just googled to put my mind at rest. its a great choice, but if you are thinking its the welsh form of john you are wrong. here are some other options, though slightly less appealing

bootsycollins · 20/08/2013 10:04

Oh gawd! Moral dilemma! Do you need to tell him if you both agree on the name?.

PinkGlove · 20/08/2013 10:28

I think its Evan thats welsh for John? I like it thought (and Evan)

whatiminterestedin · 20/08/2013 10:32

Thanks lol I have seen in some books it is meant to mean John and others Owen or Evan mean John so I'm completely confused. Exactly bootsycollins-do I tell him ?

Much, much, much prefer Evan.

Ewan is a bit of a wet name to me.

MrsPatMustard · 20/08/2013 13:17

Love it. Am only gutted DH vetoed it for us....

whatiminterestedin · 20/08/2013 13:24

Well.. spoke to DH and mentioned I was finding in some places that Ewan doesn't mean John. But Evan does and to my absolute shock he said he loves Evan too. So I think we will most likely go for Evan as I think he wants to stick with the idea of it meaning John.

So do you think Evan goes with Zack?

OP posts:
squoosh · 20/08/2013 13:36

Evan and Zack go really well together.

JennyPiccolo · 20/08/2013 15:18

LOVE Ewan or Euan or Ewen, not fussed on spelling. Evan is okay.

MrsMongoose · 20/08/2013 16:29

I really like it.

PinkGlove · 21/08/2013 16:48

Zack and Evan - great brother names! Evan was on my list Smile

heronsfly · 21/08/2013 16:50
