Is it weird to give DD my middle name as a first name

Don't know the sex of the baby but i'm currently 32weeks and massively struggling with girls names. The only one I'm quite sure I like is actually my middle name which was always going to be the middle name of the baby (it's my mums middle name too)

I'm coming round to thinking it would be a really good name but is it weird/ narscissitic to name your baby your middle name?

Really can't decide

No. I think it's fine. Not unusual for a baby to be names after its mum, dad or even both.

I don't think it's weird at all, quite the opposite. Go for it.

toffeelolly · 18/08/2013 14:26

I think that would be ok. What is the name?

Caip · 18/08/2013 14:35

I have my mum's middle name as my name and she has her mum's middle name as her name

Bellebelle · 18/08/2013 14:36

I hope it's not weird as that's what I did Smile

When DD2 was born we really struggled to decide a name as the one we had been thinking about didn't suit her at all. We couldn't agree on anything else than what happened to be my middle name, we liked it because it can be shortened to lots of different names. It just happened to be my middle name iyswim.

People still commonly give their children the same first name as their parent (more with boys I think), so middle name as first name seems fine to me.

Caip I like that tradition. I really like both my DD's middle names, I hope they do the same!

My friend did this. At the time I was slightly surprised as it is an un imaginative name, we were in a class at school with 6 of them and two of them are our best mates.

But hey ho. She is now 16 and it is just her name.

If I'd had a DS he would of had DHs middle name. It just happens to be my favourite boys name (and is a common second name in my family too).

Also DD1 is xxx my-NN, I hate my full name.

Caip · 18/08/2013 14:48

Unfortunately belle I don't plan on doing the same

Oh good, maybe I was over thinking it! I think some of my school pals will be a bit surprised because I didn't use to particularly like my mn but now I think it is the one - just need to convince DH Smile

It also means I could use my Grandmas name as a mn - although that may cause a bit of grief as my DM and grandma didn't get on (grandma from fathers side) but that's a whole other thread!
