DH says it doesn't sound like a whole name so I need a hyphen name e.g. Willa Jane? Willa Rose ? ( he says this sounds like Will a rose......climb a fence for example!) any ideas?!

Use Wilhemina, and have Willa as a shortened version.

I think Willa is fine on it's own, and I'm not a fan of hyphenated names. They look indecisive. If you must, then Willa-Jane is ok, or Willa-Marie, Willa-Claire - something simple.

Would he like Willow better?

It makes me instantly think of Willa-Jean from the Ramona Quimby books! I don't like hyphens though, I much prefer it as a name on it's own. I agree with your DH that you should be careful about things that sound like "will a......" like flower names. Personally I'd just go for a longer middle name like Willa Juliet or Willa Hermione.

I don't think anything is going to go well hyphenated with Willa tbh.

I agree. It sounds like you can't spell. Don't hyphenate. Just give her a proper name she can cut down if she wishes.

I think it boils down to the fact that I love Willa and DH doesn't! Back to drawing board!

Wilma?

As soon as I read it I thought of Will I Am. I like another posters suggestion of Wilhemina.
