Our first baby is due in 21/09 and we have kept the sex a surprise but my DH is convinced it is a boy! On the short list we have Jesse and Ollie.. Just wondered what other peoples thoughts were. We have had mixed reactions from the small amount of people we have mentioned them too.. the older generation tending not to like but younger absolutely love!
Thanks :)

Everlong, who exactly would 'any boy called Jesse' get called a big Jessie by? You or other 45 year old parents - shame on you if you were to teach your children that name calling like this was acceptable.
My 16 yo Jesse has NEVER been called this - perhaps he hangs out with friends who are fortunate to have mature adults for parents.

I have a Jesse. >waves to other Jesse Mums, suspects we've 'met' before under NC's< I sense the tide is turning for Jesse as a name, certainly in the past on here it hast mostly been slated, but I've just seen it described as a 'proper' name! I'm not sure whether to be happy or sad! Grin

Fwiw, my Jesse has never been called 'a big Jessie', and on the whole it gets no reaction. A couple have asked him why he's got a girls name, and he replies 'I'm a boy so it must be a boys name'. He's 6, so that could change.

My vote is for Ollie though because I don't want Jesse to become too popular! Wink

Currently ttc no3 and if and when I fall pregnant Jesse is our no 1 boys name! Love it....

I think it may depend on what country/region you are in: in US it's unexceptional, but in UK 'you big Jessie' hasn't died out in the north (nor I think Scotland) and also featured recently in a Sun headline (on Jessie J).

Yes, I'm in Scotland and i would say the phrase "you big Jessie" is definitely still in use here, it's the first thing I would think tbh, even though I would be too polite to say so.
